Well, it's a poll if you count up the answers, minus the comments that don't give an answer. As I count it, I see 4 yes, 2 no.

you have no idea that you can make an actual poll in a thread do you? 😀

I got leh linux. So yes/no depending on if you ask Linus or SCO.
But when I used windoze yes. I had pirated progs. Pretty much all of mine were.

Oh, sorry people, I didn't know I could actually make a poll. I'm dumb! I'm gonna go and edit it right now so there's a real poll.

When someone votes on this poll, does it bump the thread up, or does that only happen when you actually post?

Everything I have installed on my system is a mixture of paid for and freeware applications. Years ago when I was in high school/college things were quite different.

By pirated I'm meaning, basically, any program that one legally should not have. So, like I said in the first post, a program copied from a friend, a non-freeware program downloaded off of a peer-to-peer network, etc. I'm not sure what the status of "backups" is. If you're just talking about backups of programs you've purchased, and that are intended for personal use only, than that's not pirated. In that case, you can just go ahead and answer a big "NO" to the poll question 🙂

He's referring to something I said before I discovered I could actually post a real "poll" at the top of the thread. I said that people could answer however they wanted to the question, so instead of saying "yes, I have pirated software," they could put a + mark, or say "pizza" or something like that. Anyway...then I found out I could add a poll to the thread.

Hypothetically yes. Though because I have a job nowadays I pay for more and more of stuff I find useful.

Software .. not really. I have been able to get most of the software I use at large discounts through my current employer or former school. 🙂

I might install a game from a friend to check it out, but if I like it, it's a purchase.

Maybe it's because I'm in software, I like to support others in software.

I have a backup of ******** from somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who owns the software. Does that count? I have it for safe keeping just in case their original disc ever gets scratched.
