Hypothetical situation...

Lets say one of your parents is being unfaithful, doesn't matter which one, but the other doesn't know and you know the secret. There are no little kids involved, any offspring are independent.

How would you react and what would you do?

my parents' marriage would suddenly make a whole lot of sense 😉

I think I'd be disappointed, but I wouldn't say anything about it to the other parent.

Confront the one who is having the affair. Tell them that you've looked up to them as ethical - and their behavior is far from what you'd expect of them.

Knowing how my folks are, I'd laugh at the thought. I'm from one of the few functional families on this planet, it seems. And no, I'm not being delusional - the Asian community is awfully prone to gossip so we'd find out the second it happens.

Anyhow, I'd more than likely tell my aunt/grandparents and let them take care of it. I'm not going to take sides nor am I going to just assume I know all of what's going on.

My father fooled around on my mom for years.... One of the biggest things to destroy the relationship be he and I while I was growing up. I would not lie for him...(tell my mom it was me who was on the phone all day, or tell her that he picked me up from school). My mom had a very good idea what was going on, but had five kids and felt trapped.

They divorced when I was 17yrs old.. I got my own place and did not speak to my dad until I was in my mid 30's.

🙁

are the parents hypothetically rich? and do we get along?

Everyone gets along fine with each other. Parents are not really close / don't spend much time together as it is. There is quite a bit of financial dependence upon the cheating spouse. Hypothetically...

I guess since its a hypothetical question abouty our own parents, you should post pics of them 🙂

Part of me says that we are all adults (even the children) and just to keep out of it. On the other hand, I love and respect both my parents and wouldn't want to know that hurtful stuff was going on and not do anything to stop it.

happened to me

if you think the other parent knows then stay out of it and mind your own business. if not then tell the other parent

I vote this one!

I'm sure I'll get trashed by this, but the simple truth is you have become party to an injurious lie. I would feel conscience bound to confront the cheater and ask them to confess, if they did not I would be forced to tell the other person. That is the only morally correct action I can see.

There may be situations in which I would not take this action, but in most cases I would, at least so I believe at this point, having never been in the situation I cannot say for sure.

regardless of how one person thinks before it happens, you don't know how you would react until the situation becomes part of your life.

Been there...
