Suppose Anandtech instituted a cost for posting, and credit for replies as follows:

1. It would cost you $0.10 for every post you made, including new threads, and including replies in your own thread.

2. You would be credited $0.10 for every reply in a thread originated by you by someone else.

3. If a Mod locks your thread, you pay $1.00.

4. If you're banned it costs you ??$....

So who would be the most profitable, and who would the most in debt???

I create posts and flocks of users come in and post, too. Post it, and they will come.

Normally I wouldn't post in your threads, but I decided to pump your value so we hear a very loud thud when your worth hits the ground.

I almost never start new threads, so I'd probably owe about $3000.

No pay scale for being quoted in a thread? This is complete BS. :|

I had envisioned becoming a millionaire through nested quoting.

I'm start lots of those posts where everyone replies to the OP but doesn't read the other people's replies. Examples: what was your first car, what's your favorite fast food chain, list your 5 favorite games and why, etc. Also be sure to be the "official post" for every semi-major sport event, that'd net you hundred of dollars alone

I am not sure where I would fall, however, I think your scale might need adjustment for the OT crowd.

I know my PPD is quite low, but for the longest time I tried to stick to only technical threads in the "good" forums.

Seems like it would encourage people to make lots of spammy, useless replies.

so it would be exactly the same as it is now

Wouldn't his formula not encourage spammy useless replies but instead spammy useless threads?

Who would be replying when there is a thread profit to be making.

Now if the OP adjusted it to so that everytime you're quoted you get ten cents I bet we'd see quote trees the size of redwoods :D

We'd get tons of crap, like this thread for example. Everybody wants to give their opinion, but hardly anybody is going to read any other posts, such as mine for example. Also, the goal would be to post as inflammatory of posts as possible without getting banned. This would lead to very heated, emotional discussions, which we already have too many of as it is.
