That info you used is rather old, pre-dating Delta.

Vaccination is now, roughly, 50% effective at preventing infection from COVID. That is why CDC wants people to mask up again.
The purpose of vaccination now, is that it still GREATLY reduces severity of illness.

Numbers are all over the place and we're just starting to get meaningful data out of Israel. We are finding that efficacy definitely wanes after 8-9 months hence the recent hubbub about boosters. Israel was a month or so ahead of us and on the leading edge of that timeline. My wife was one of the first in the country to get vaccinated in Dec 2020 and is now in that booster guidance range. I'll be up in September. The 50% you quoted hasn't been formally vetted and showed up in some random articles. Efficacy against delta looks to be a dart toss if you want to cherry pick numbers.

But as you said, regardless of infection, it's pretty uncontested that if you are vaccinated you have an incredibly minimal chance of getting very sick. Which is really the key right now with hospitalization use spiked through the charts.

Most states are reporting their vaccination rates in comparison to infections and that number is remaining pretty consistent in the 98%+ range are unvaccinated. And that is with Delta data up to date.

The day before he was in a packed no-mask event. He was the super spreader there.

Oh - You mean like your squad leaders such as Rashida Tlaib?

Oh but don't worry - they made sure to socially distance! maintaining a distance of 6 inches, right?

88% effectiveness at preventing infection with Delta variant after 2 doses of vaccine relative to unvaccinated. Also significantly reduces severity of illness if you do get sick, though that's not covered in this paper. High vaccine rate is absolutely pivotal to success in controlling this virus and prevention of bad outcomes.

She really shouldn't do that, especially when being depended on as a representative. It significantly undercuts the message and damages her credibility in other areas.

Similar criticism for Governor Abbott although made worse given his inconsistency with health official recommendations and his privileged receipt of treatment which is not indicated. His responsibility as Governor to the public is also far greater than a US Rep.

She should absolutely get on local TV in Dearborn or wherever her district is and apologize for not setting a better example, while urging people to mask up indoors until transmission is under control. Then maybe she should do the same for Arab/Palestinian communities across the US, if she has any clout with “communities of color”.

The only possible proof of a god of any religion is if Abbott dies of covid and is sent to the hell that he deserves. Fuck that piece of filth.

no just god would allow this murderous flesh bag to continue life.

He's had three vaccine shots. And monoclonal anti-body treatment. He's teaming with antibodies. He's asymptomatic and isn't going to die. Because he knows that getting vaccinated can be life or death, in spite of what he says and the policies he pursues.

Well, yes, that is how vaccines work, although it isn't magical. If we get enough vaccinated then diseases do disappear or nearly disappear.
1) Polio has essentially been eradicated
2) Tetanus isn't really present in the US any more.
3) There has been no rubella transmitted within the US in a decade.
4) Pertussis is down by more than 99%.
5) Diptheria is at roughly 0.0025% of what it used to be.
etc. I could go on and on with other diseases that are virtually gone due to vaccines.

Yes, Covid does spread amongst the vaccinated. That is a red-herring unrelated to ending the disease. If we got enough vaccinated, then the initial viral load drops enough that there would be very little to spread amongst the vaccinated, and then it extinguishes itself -- even if it can spread amongst those who are vaccinated. We just aren't there yet with enough vaccinated for the disease to go away.

LOL the guy is fully vaccinated, what more do you babies want him to do?
He should promote vaccinations for all. He should stop spreading mistruths. Etc.

News flash: He did. MANY MANY times.

He has been incredibly vocal about getting the vaccine. Just because you have a narrative sewed into your tiny little pea-brains that he is this huge anti-vaxxers and wants people to die - doesn't make it a reality.

Backhanded efforts like backhanded complements are ineffective. Example: "You are usually smart enough to know the difference." Abbott putting on a small public effort on August 9th (half a year after vaccines have been available) is too little, too late. Especially after him attempting everything he could to further Covid spread.

Can we smart vaccinated people just wait out the dip shits? Let it mutate into more deadly forms and kill off all the unvaxxed? I mean they are dumbasses, so its better for the overall world gene pool. Once they are all dead the vaccines can finally do its job amongst the smart.

I didn't say he was anti-vaccine. But he supports the right of people to not be vaccinated, knowing what a foolish decision it is. And not just harmful to the person not being vaccinated. Harmful to everyone.

The problem is that the more it runs rampant it has more opportunity to mutate into variants that can tear through current vaccinations and then we need to retool again.

Well, people like @s0me0nesmind1 are doing all they can to hand the government fully over to democrats by killing off the Republican and Libertarian voters. So that is a slight benefit. But the negatives are just too big to even take a small pleasure from them killing their long-term political party's chances.

I'll never forget some time earlier this spring it was a NYT article.... "Rural America presents existential threat to humanity". Or something to that effect. What a fucking headline to wake up to.

Yes, if >90% of us got the vax, the disease would likely be stopped the way we stopped numerous other diseases. However, the devil himself could not design a better vaccination-busting scenario than 50% vaccinated and 50% stupid.

How many in the U.S. have succumbed to smallpox the last few years or decades?

Sorry? Didn’t hear your muffled response of NONE. Ever wonder why? (No, of course not…).

The answer is VACCINES, shithead. Yes, human kind can eradicate a disease with a vaccine. Amazing, ain’t it?

Except by the time you magically vaccinate an entire country - all the time and process it would take to do such it will have already mutated again - and it will be spreading even amongst the already vaccinated such as Abbott. You're not going to win. It is Influenza 2.0

Hey numbnuts, had everyone taken the vaccine when they were supposed to, we may not have ended up with the Delta variant to begin with (yes I'm aware it originated outside the US). That's the whole fucking point of vaccinating. Up until that variant, we still had the opportunity to prevent it being a permanent fixture of our species.

This is false. SARS-CoV-2 is far less likely than influenza to experience significant mutation escaping immunity from vaccination. There is likely to be further mutations resulting in newer strains like the delta variant popping up, but as explained the vaccines though less effective for it than for other strains are still highly effective.

He probably won't die but we can hope he at least gets long lasting covid symptoms that will finally convince him to take it seriously.

Try harder man. The vaccine was never advertised as a 100% effective at prevention, it was never advertised as a one and done treatment.
Have realistic expectations.
Yes to date the vaccines are doingnwhat they need to do. Keeping the vaccinated out of hospitals.

There is another possibility you have not considered, it seems to me, and that is the assumption he is actually alive in the way a person potentially can be. There is a meaning behind the idea that the kingdom of heaven is within.

There is a joke that people make about virtue being it's own reward, that it is it's only reward, but that is said by those who have no real idea what that reward is like to experience. The ego dreams that victory is dying with the most toys because we do not know the ego is a shield we erected to drive out of consciousness our own inner misery. "Except as you be a little child you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. The ego is the funeral pyre of our inner child. It is the Phoenix that rises from those ashes.

Don't let people like Abbott cause you to lose faith.

Now, with that out of the way the first thing I blurted out aloud when I heard this story on MSNBC along with wishes he recovers was, "Not me I hope he dies of it." Ah me! So much pain!

You're on to something there. I'm disgusted with people who don't want to get vaccinated and refuse to wear masks to the point where I'm all for all of them just dropping dead. The intelligence average of humanity will increase greatly. We'll probably never again see anyone on Wheel Of Fortune choose a consonant instead of a vowel on a free play or add the word 'and' to a crossword puzzle.
