HyperThreading Sub 3GHZ Northwoods

I have heard that the hyperthreading components exist on the die of the sub 3Ghz P4's it is just disabled. You can download a new Bios that supports it too. My question is, how disabled are the hyperthreading components? Are they physically disabled or could it be a simple BIOS switch or something. Is there any way to enable it??
 
rumor has it they were disabled on the die in the manufacturing process and cannot be enabled...It is like they had it but were not ready to implement it. Talk to Wingznut of intel to tell you more...
 
HyperThreading is hard-wired off in the 2.8GHz Pentium 4's and under. Just like the Celeron which has 512KB of L2 cache but only 128KB enabled. You can't turn on the extra L2 cache, either. You're going to have to get a 3.066Ghz Pentium 4 or above to get HyperThreading.🙂
 
yup, but Intel is planning to launch P4's with 800MHz FSB and with HT
they range from 2.4 GHz to 3.2 GHz
 
i read somewhere that some "confidential" intel chips under 3ghz have it enabled.
in fact,my 2.53ghz confidential chip has it enabled according to wcpuid.

The Engineering Samples (AKA Intel Confidential) have it enabled along with unlocked multip's. Good luck finding one of these unless you work in an Intel lab or know someone in theR&D fabs.

As you can see from the screenshot I just took
WCPUID showing my 2.4B with HT support the proggie isn't a good indicator of HT being active. If HT is working then XP or I think even w2k should show 2 logical processors present.
 
only if the motherboard supports hyperthreading.
i'm shopping for one now.
probably get a 845pe or sis655 motherboard.
