Hi all,

I cant seem to get hyperthreading to work in Windows. I have got hyperthreading to work many other times with other machines but not this time. I have a P4 2.4C, with the Intel I865PERL motherboard. Both the MB and the processor support HT. I have HT enabled in the bios and in the boot-up the post says that HT is running. When I get into windows I have ONLY one processor. The second virtual processor is nowhere to be found. CPU-Z coldn't even see it. I have updated the bois with no help. THE only thing im curious about is that this is the first P$ machine i have installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 on. Is SP2 the issue? Also during the XP install xp said it couldn't recognize my "type of computer system" I chose that it was a regular PC (one of my options). I had never recieved this message b4. Finally in the device manager there is no processor tab.

An interesting probelm. If anyone could help me get HT enabled in windows I will be very thankful.

Go into dev manager and hit the + beside Computer and it probably shows ACPI uniprocessor PC. Click update driver and then select ACPI multi processor PC

The only thing that i can see, is that you selected a Regular PC, when you where asked. Ive installed xp pro sp2 on a few p4 systems without any problems with hyperthreading. What you should try is seeing as you did a bios update, clear the cmos and dont change any of the defaults. If it works after that then that was the problem.

BTW when i recieved the "Windows didn't recognize your type of computer" during the installation I only had two options. "i486 C Stepping" - What I chose or "Other" if I click other the a new page asking me for a manufacturer disk pops up. I built this computer myself so i have no disk like that. The motherboard is the intel I865PERLK. Please Help. This is a server for my home and i need HT to get working. Thanks

When you select the option to update the drive tell it you want to specify what driver to use
