Hyperthreading and real time audio encoding

I have a PC that is doing a lot of real time audio processing and mp3 encoding across 8 virtual audio cables. Does it make sense to have hyperthreading enabled when I'm doing this?

edit: Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate it.

If you have a quad core with hyperthreading, and you're encoding 8 things at once, yeah. It might not make a noticeable difference, but you might as well keep it enabled.

There are very few cases where HT actually decreases your performance. So yea, have it enabled.

Even in the rare case that performance decreases, it goes down by so little, it really isn't even noticeable. Like ~1% or less in most cases, compared to +25 to as much as +50% additional performance gained, in the software where it helps.

Realistically you're unlikely to see more than a 25% performance increase with SMT and even that's basically the best case scenario AFAIK. The rest of what you said is correct though, the difference should be negligible to minor.

I would guess so but not sure.. Why dont you run some tests and come back to us? 🙂
