Hyperthread affect temps?

I'm new to the forum (and not so computer savvy), so thanks for looking. I use my computer (Asus P4P800, 2.4c oc to 2.89, stock heatsink and fan, one each additional in/out case fan) as an audio recorder with Sonar as the software. I noticed that I got better preformance without Hyperthreading, so I disabled it in the BIOS. However, now the idle temp runs about 14 degrees C higher (47-48 C) than before (in Asus Probe). Is it really possible that running without Hyperthreading makes that much difference in the temps? The full load temp of 54 C (I know, pretty high) remains the same.

Is Asus Probe accurate? If so, what causes the idle temp to soar like that with Hyperthreading off?

no clue. but that does sound off.

on another note i just built a P4 3 ghz (800FSB and HT) for a friend on the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe.

idle temps are about 29C and load was slightly higher.

he had the following fans

80mm in front pushing air IN
80mm side fan pushing air IN
80mm rear sucking air OUT
80mm rear pushing air IN

That doesn't sound right. I recommend trying Motherboard Monitor and double checking the temps. Peace
