Hyperterminal over USB

Hi guys well here is my problem if you can hopefully help me...

I have a laptop with no built in serial port. As a result I purchased a USB to serial adapter. The drivers are installed and I can specify the COM port as well as the settings. Now my problem is that it will not let me Hyperterminal into any Cisco Routers/Switches/PIX firewalls. Does anybody know what might be the problem? Also if I switch the adapter between USB ports it changes the COM port assignment depending on the USB port.

Here is the model Prolific PL-2303

I have checked my settings with computers that can connect via DB9 to Rollover cable. They work fine and I have no problems with it. I believe it stems from the USB.

Thanks for any help.

All I can say is check and make sure that you are using the correct COM port. I have a T42 and use the USB > serial adapter and it works fine. It does change com ports as you stated when I change the USB port.
