A country falling apart

"It's really quite unbelievable...

Her kids go to an exclusive private school, she has two, no, actually three cars parked in the yard, goes shopping in Dubai and Joburg, but she has no running water in her house.

I miss the Harare of old: where pot holes were patched up as soon as they appeared, when you could walk into a supermarket and buy milk without joining a stampede to a supermarket where it has just been delivered (I witnessed one yesterday).

And hey, you could budget and save for that divine pair of shoes.

I saw a pair about two or three weeks ago going for 150m Zimbabwean dollars but when I went back to the store after getting paid they were retailing for the princely sum of 450m Zimbabwe dollars."

A bus ticket runs 3 million dollars ...

idea:

Buy country for 100 USD
Spend 10 USD to hire 10,000 workers to build infrastructure.
Spend 1 USD to enhance/upgrade/promote tourism in the country
Sell country for 100 Billion USD
Profit?

He then proceeded to try to manipulate the economy with price controls and other economic shenanigans that sent the country down the toilet. All the while killing and intimidating any opposition to stay in power.

US was once the bread basket of the World. Then Obama took over and tax to hell all the white (and asian) earners and handed their money over to his poor constituents. The US went from being the superpower of the world to being on the brink of implosion. He then proceeded to try to manipulate the economy with price controls and other economic shenanigans such as universal healthcare that sent the country down the toilet. All the while reverse discriminating and oppressing free speech through complicity of the leftist newspapers that supported him to stay in power.

Sure you could blame it on one guy, but consider that all parts of Africa not under strong European influence are a shithole. And even those that are under such influence are just getting by. If Mugabe didn't fuck it up, someone else would have come along and done the same, TIA.

If they don't like it there, they need to move somewhere else. Not a difficult concept.

Difficult if your money is worth less than the cotton it's printed on.

It doesn't cost anything to use your legs and walk someplace better.

One of the guys that used to work at our company was born and raised in Zimbabwe. But he was white. His family had to run during the takeover otherwise they would have been killed.

Serves that country right. Retards.

In the US that is very true.

In other parts of the world, that is not true at all.

One of my friends in India married a Pakistani girl. Her visa restricts her movements to just the city they're living in. At any given day they could send her back and he might not be able to fallow her back to Pakistan without risking his life.

This is true but Zimbabwe was one of the countries that was bucking that trend until Mugabe came along. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely one of the better off African countries.

Thing is, Mugabe tearing Zimbabwe apart has been going on for a number of years now. It seems like it has largely been ignored until now with the ridiculously large inflation numbers.

US was once the bread basket of the World. Then Bush took over and created money from nothing, adding trillions to the country's debt. He gave this money over to his wealthy constituents. The US went from being the superpower of the world to being on the brink of implosion from crushing debt. He then proceeded to manipulate the economy with price controls and other economic shenanigans such as an indefinite open-ended war with no definite, clear reason or ending-conditions, that sent the country down the toilet. All the while discriminating, oppressing free speech, and distributiing propaganda through the right wing radio and news stations that supported him to stay in power.
