Hyper-V slow guest start

Just thought I would ping the folks here.

I have a bunch of VMs (mix of Win2k8 and Suse Linux) setup on Hyper-V R2 + SP1 RC, server core. They run fine, however for some odd reason they take FOREVER to start. It can take ~20 minutes for the larger VMs (4 vCPU, 8GB RAM) to startup. It just sits at "Starting (10&#37😉...", then it suddenly finishes. They run fine once they start.

This is on a beefy box, quad Nehalem EX with 256GB RAM, VMs reside on several FC 8 disk RAID0 NTFS LUNs.

how long has this machine been running?

I took a class on hyperV recently and the instructor said that after a while it is highly recommended to defrag the machine because hyper V slows down.

I think I figured this out. I had the failover mode on my Clariion set wrong for the Windows native MPIO, it should be 4 (default is 1). Guess it pays to read the manual every once in a while. 🙂
