[Insert cricket sounds here]😉

PS HT reminds me of Powernow, i.e. great benefits if you can find a app that uses it.

I know that gknot uses HT and someof the other divx encoders but I don't know the version since I haven't done one in awhile.....

I need to go to some of the review sites and see what apps they have used...I know there is an mp3 encoder but I haven't used it.

BUt when you do find that app the benefits can be well worth it and sometimes quivalent to upgrading to a cpu 600mhz higher...

ooh nice thought! i don't have anything in mind though.. but it would be really cool to find an app like VirtualDubMod for divx encoding that supports HT now that divx 5.1 is out and it's slow as hell :[

I'm pretty sure that the new version of Adobe Premeiere (Pro) is optimized for Windows Xp, and HT. Anyone who does video editing/compostiting knows that rendering sucks. I notice a huge difference going from a P42.0 to a 2.4C w/ HT.. but i haven't tried it w/ both HT on and Off.

VirtualDubMod is using 80-90% of my CPU... Taskmanager CPU graphs show exact same activity on both virtual processors. I guess that means that's another app supporting HT ?

I don't trust graphs....I would hit restart and turn off HT in the bios (nice and easy) and then run it exactlythe same again and time it......

would say that normaly in the 2 graphs if an app would peg 100 in HT off and 2 50%'s on ht on usually means no HT but I would test it before I think it is confirmed....

What version cause my version only showing 50% and I have it really working in terms of low fps....I am using version 1.5.4.1....

maybe there is a newer one I am unaware about.....

Are you doing a divx encoding and perhaps the divx codec itself has HT ability???

im using the same version of VDB and yes im divx encoding w/ divx 5.1, it is indeed possible it's the codec that has HT support.
I can't remember what my CPU utilization was when i had divx 5.0.5 on though.. gimme a minute i'll find out..

No luck, I couldn't find anything that connects divx and HT...
Timing with HT on and off I guess isn't very reliable either cause I think even if the app doesn't support HT it's still faster having it on than off, right?

Found a prog that supports HT: Besweet Light
It is used for audio encoding (AC3 -> mp3 wav and backwards, etc)

Do you have a link to that program??? I have latest build of besweet GUI and it doesn't support HT based on my multiple test....

Also I remember reading over at www.doom9.net that divx 5.1 was supposed to be compiled to take advantage of multithreading...I will see if I can find that link...

Photoshop 7.0.1 (dunno about 7 jumped from 6 to 7.0.1) also supports HT

Says at the loading screen "Loading Multi-processor support".
That easy 😛

Cool, I have Photoshop and I'm going to be buying Premiere for my camcorder. 🙂

Thanks to fellow ATers pMing me a lot of this info.....I don't know how much HT benefits in each item but these are at least programs known to benefit with HT support. I think a lot of support of the encoder (video and audio) as well as photo imaging is likely due to these apps being more workstation type and therefore dual processor systems are not strangers to workstations...

I know for autocadd and TMPGenc that multithreaded and Hyperthreaded are the same thing and turned on with the same commands....whipthread for autocadd and under environmental --- cpu tab for TMPGenc....I thinkthe diff in TMPGenc will be instead of it saying 2 logical processors found it will say 2 physical processors found or 4 logical processors found if you are using dual xeons with HT...

Not sure if you'd already read this thread or not, but Seti yields a 30% boost in performance when running 2 instances. You may want to add a category for distributed computing - maybe ask over there for more info.

I have been avoiding these type becuase is the program really HT enabled or is it a trick and HT is enabled due to the multitaksing???

It could be a trick, however even if a program isn't optimized for HT there are still benefits from using the HT vs. a non HT enable processor.

Im an AMD fan but bump for Duvie. Any work that makes life easier for the punters is fine by me.

I think this should be stickied shortly. Keep up the good work.

I agree...However I really started this list to find programs that are optimised for HT. In most all things HT enabled OS and overall system will show benefits. So in that case I would list every program available. I think I should stick to my current method of qualification....

If a program running in single app mode with no other program running shows more then 50% in the cpu utilization that is usually a sign...

Yeah, like the fact that you are only with HT able to finally use 100% of the processor you bought and paid for. 🙂

OK...So what percentage of the AMD processor am I using??? ....As far as I know this is a limitation to most cpus and software in terms of how they handle the threads and idle time...I don't know the exact technicals but reading it would suggest to me AMD would suffer from same thing and could take advantage of same like technology....So again does that mean AMD is jst ripping me off since they are not letting me run 100% of my processor???

If above was sarcasm then Nevermind!!!!
