I have my 1090t oc'd to 3.9, room temp 26, idle temp 38. Prime overheats it real fast. LinX works OK with temps around 60 until I up the amount of RAM. Playing Skyrim temps max at about 55. I see that a lot of people get much better cooling than this.

I wonder if I have too much thermal grease. Not sure how much to use with the Hyper 212 with the space between the copper pipes and the aluminum. Suggestions please.

When I installed the CM212+ I used a finger condom to smear the thermal paste in to the crevices. I had the same problem so I filed down the metal till it was even with the pipes. This produced a much better result.

I purchased an EVO recently to do a build and it worked much better. There are no gaps the pipes are all flush.

Thanks, I think I have too much thermal paste. I will reset and check the level on the heatsink.

There was a recent post about this and the uneven 212+ contact area. The poster (I believe) sanded the area down for more even contact.

Unfortunately, I read that thread about 2 days after I had already installed my 212+... but when I go in to install the GPU, I'm pulling the heatsink off and modding it as well...

If you think you used to much thermal compound, you probably did. You really only need a rice grain size, aka a VERY small little dot in the center.

As far as the uneven design of the 212+, ya it sucks. The evo has a much better surface, however they are both decent coolers and I have owned both.
