I want to tone my abs back into a tight form, I'm not far off now.
Can you drink alcohol?
Do you have to work out like a maniac?
etc.
AFAIK alcohol shouldn't be even considered a possibility if you are serious about a six pack.
Alcohol, while essentially made up of empty calories, is fine in moderation. I drink one to two times per week, and have yet to see it pack on any amount of weight.
Age and genetics are probably the reason why.
Most males have a very hard time keeping a six pack even if they had one in their teens/20's. Also most of those that I have seen brag about a six pack are skinny little fuks with just their abs showing through. To me a six pack has some mass to it.
Even in my best shape at around 10% BF I have more a 4 pack than a six pack. However, I am usually massive with good definition and vascularity. It's freaky looking though and I look much better at 15% ish BF...I can dip into higher BF's and still look in good shape.
I love beer, but it's really bad news if a six pack is a goal. Since my late 20's my goals are to just stay fit and strong.
People should stick to what works for them though, to figure this out is a lot of trial and error. I tried the food logging and it didn't really show me anything different. I don't really get into food though, for me it's more making sure I eat enough when I am training. It does work for many, as does portion control which many of the pre-package food diets are really based on.
People like to whine about how you have to eat whole foods only, drink just water, don't do supplements.
I can't carry enough food around when I am even on maintenance so I supplement with shakes a couple times a day. glut and creatine work great for me and a good post workout sugar / protein shake has worked well for me. I take a ton of vitamins and minerals as well when training. All of these have be training longer and harder than without. I have tried a ton of things that did nothing or even made me feel like crap.
ECA stacks work great for me though. I am able to drop weight insanely on it. I do train and diet as well during the phase, but the ECA seems to help me alot more than others.
My biggest lose was 86lbs in 3 months. I did lose about 25lbs in muscle I have not been able to get back since (I was 190lbs ripped in my 20's, now I am around 175lbs in decent shape...165 would be ripped)
