Hydroxycut = Bad for the Liver; according to the FDA

From their own website:

blip: "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released a consumer advisory about certain Hydroxycut-branded products. According to the advisory, the FDA has received 23 reports over more than seven years about consumers having experienced serious liver-related problems coinciding with the time they were taking Hydroxycut-branded products. The advisory states that, ?Although the liver damage appears to be relatively rare, FDA believes consumers should not be exposed to unnecessary risk.?

While this is a small number of reports relative to the many millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products over the years, out of an abundance of caution and because consumer safety is our top priority, we are voluntarily recalling these Hydroxycut-branded products."

The following products are covered by this voluntary recall:

* Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
* Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
* Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules
* Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules
* Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
* Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
* Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
* Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
* Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
* Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
* Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
* Hydroxycut 24
* Hydroxycut Carb Control
* Hydroxycut Natural

I've tried it and it made me unable to sleep for 10-12 hours afterward, probably because of some sensitivity to the ephedrine in it. Otherwise it does seem to do everything it reportedly was meant to do. I am shocked that the recall is based on only 20 deaths in no context to what number of doses have been taken. Hopefully there is more to it than reports of possible or alleged liver problems.

Can't say I'm surprised. I'm not much for "fat burner/weight loss" pills either way. Often times it seems like a placebo effect to me.

Crap! I was hoping this was a recent batch. I tried that stuff once within the past 7 years.
Didnt do anything and cost me a lot of money. Now I have to sorry about my liver and whether they will be in business for a class action suit.

Just goes to show you that eating right and exercising trumps any supplment/chemical etc. Why people insist on trying to lose weight out of bottles and cans is beyond me.

I wish I could still get the ephedrine based Xenadrine, but not for weight loss. The ephedrine just made me feel magical on a monday morning, taken with a Mt. Dew chaser.

No point in taking this shit anyway. If you want to be fit, eat, train, sleep. That's how nature worked long before "all natural pills" entered the picture.

I'll just repeat what I said in the other thread in H&F.

Years ago I figured Hydroxycut would be ineffective, but at least safe, when they took ephedra out of it. I guess not. Sucks that all the stuff that actually works is too bad for you to remain on the market. No big loss for me because I haven't used supplements of any kind for years, but it still sucks in general.

TANSTAAFL...

People are lazy. They want a pill to solve their problems.

This.

I hope the same thing happens to Extenze, i can't stand the douchebag on those commercials.

Repeat after me: "there is no magical weight loss pill/supplement/formula/diet/system/equipment". If you're considering buying any such thing, repeat that sentence a few more time until the urge passes. People just keep on trying every stupid new thing.

It's like watching someone dig a hole. They want the hole to not get any deeper, but they keep digging. Then someone walks by and says "hey, throw this awesome little pill in the hole, and it will fill right up!". Stupid stupid stupid. The only thing that will work is better diet, more activity, good sleep. Done.

This. If you want to lose weight and gain muscle you need to eat right, exercise, and drink plenty of fluids. That's it.

The wife still had half a bottle in the cabinet. If it wasn't for the recall I'd of probably still told her to keep it around as a "no doze". $25 down the drain.

23 reports in 7+ years. I wonder how many fat people have died in that same period of time from obesity/heart related conditions.

MOST OTC are....there are real deals out there, but what works for one person may not work well for another.

ECA stacks work great for me.

The main problem with most of these 'lawsuits' is that they are by those that took far too much of it.

An ECA stack for example doesn't get much better past 20/200 mgs of eph. and caff. taken 3x a day. Some think doubling up on both dosage and frequency will cause the pounds to melt off...not so, but your heart will definitely react.

Stroke out and sue FTW! 🙁

Not sure if you were being rhetorical or declaring your personal mission statement.
