Yup..

It's almost impossible to avoid though, unless you go out of your way.

It seems almost everything has at least partially hydrogenated fats in it.

If the hydrogenated fats are solid at room temperature, they aren't very much more liquid in your veins .. lol

They more hydrogen the worse it is for you. I don't really care one way or another though.

Notice the use of the word like. The fast food/meals to go revolution is a major factor of the FAS (fatass American syndrome).

There are no foods that come in a package that do not contain hydrogenated fats, unless they quite simply don't have fat in them.

It's necessary for product shelf life.

It's not like our diets have gotten any worse. Its that the youth of today spends vast quantities of time playing video games, watching TV and using computers. As a society we are promotong laziness at a very young age and it bcomes a habit we keep. 40 years ago people ate the same crap we do know for the most part, but they lead a much more active and healthy lifestyle.

Hence fast food.

Furthermore, participation in youth sports continues to grow so the sitting around all day playing video games argument is not entirely true. Sure it is for certain populations, but not all nor a majority.

Almost everyone partakes in fast food one way or another.

Note: I am not saying fast food is the sole cause, but it is one of the more prominent causes.

You're joking, right?

What, do you think it's gotten better?

Americans don't go to the market daily to buy fresh produce. They eat frozen crap, and prepackaged garbage.

How many obese kids do you see playing sports? Fast food doesn't help, but i consider people who are sedentary more of a cause the eating poorly. The average fat-a$$ hasn't ran farther then the ice cream truck since high school. You can have the crappiest diet in the world but if you exercise regularly you will maintain the weight of a lazy-a$$ who only has a 2000 calories a day diet.

We know way more about diet and food now compared to 40 years ago. And there were McDonalds 40 years ago as well. The food wasn't as processed but it was still around, what has really changed is the level of activity in the our lives.

We certainly do know more about diet and food now compared to 40 years ago, but that doesen't mean anything in and of itself.

I agree with the activity aspect, but that is certainly not the only culprit. Besides, we're not just talking about the fatasses here, we're talking about the quality of food for everyone.

The quality of the American diet has absolutely not gone up in the last 40, 80, 120 or 240 years. It's probably taken a huge turn for the worst in the last 40 years. Processed food is garbage.

Yeah, I eat it. But at least I realize it's garbage. :p

Your body has evolved over years to store and breakdown fat.
It is a normal developement, that is beneficial to us in many ways.
However, we did not evolve with any enzymes that fit onto fatty acids with Trans bonds, so your body can't break them down.
It can only store them.

I would say it has improved midly considering that most americans no lonfer ear a 1/2 pound of bacon and 8 pancakes for breakfats anymore, but that's just my opinion

Yeah i eat it too, but a great deal of fast food i eat is In'n'Out which i have convinced myself into believing is mildly better then MickeyD's, Taco Bell, BK... etc.

All packaged food has had every bit of nutrition removed in the name of shelf-life.

They try and put it back(fortify it), but obviously they can only replace the higher level vitamins with their synthetic counterparts. Nobody ever mentions the amino acids, enzymes and myriads of other compounds, especially in plant matter, that couldn't be replaced even if we wanted to.

Just about the only thing you can eat that is truely good for you(nutritionally dense) is fresh, raw or steamed plant matter.

Do you think hypothermia cases have decreased at all?
