I think this Hybrid Power feature of the 780a and 790i chipsets is a very good idea.

Powering down a 9800GTX while your surfing only to fire it up when you hit the games is brilliant. Less power and less noise :)

However with that being said it is apparently only going to be supported under vista :(

I refuse to install that pox on my hardware period, and would love to see the hybrid power feature supported on XP (I?m not to fussed about the hybrid SLI as its not for me).

I don't know if their is a technical reason why XP would not be able to support this functionality, or if nVidia are just being lazy with their driver support.

It's a technical reason. The OS needs to do a lot of the heavy lifting for this kind of thing, primarily moving threads from one GPU to another transparently. This kind of threading support is one of the big things to come out of the WDDM implemented on Vista, which is also why it's not possible to implement it on the XPDM.
