HX750 Died what is the best upgrade / replacement

In the market for a new power supply as it seems my HX750is dead. I let my friend use my computer and came home to the computer turning on for 1/2 a second then nothing. So should I RMA and replace the Corsair HX850 Power supply with my setup? Or do you think I should upgrade to a higher wattage?

On Newegg the Corsair 1200i is on sale for $300 and the XFX Pro1250 and Seasonic 1250 are $239 after rebates . What do you guys recommend?

System wise I sold my 690 for money and have the GTX 460 and plan to upgrade to the new Nvidia 700 series when they come out, or a GTX 690 again ( had this before), I also plan to upgrade my CPU / Mobo / ram when the next gen of intel comes out. Then an SSD is also in the path

Hard Drive wise I am using 3GB WD Red, 4 1.5TB Seagates HD's.

What do you think?

Any ideas how to see what the culprit is?

You will absolutely not need 1200w unless you are planning on tri/quad sli. If you can RMA do so. 850w will be fine if you plan to go the sli/cf path in the future, otherwise a ~650w ps will be fine.

I say Seasonic, I don't have one, but I hear nothing but good thing about them. And the850W PSU will be plenty of power especially in gold or platinum category. The reason I'm using 1200AX because someone made me an offer I couldn't resist. Who knows, I might go Tri SLi in next X89 platform.

Those power supplies are overkill.

Seasonic 860W platinum would be my first choice if you're going to remain with a single GPU. However, if you do intend to run multiple cards, Seasonic 1250 (I like Sanyo Denki's).

You are right, I would have no need for it.

Do you think the HX 750 if I keep it could keep up with my current system / planned upgrade?

- 7 HD's (4 1.5 TB Seagate, 3 WD Red)
- upgrading to the new intel chip / mobo
- 16 GB ram
- Looking to get the new 700 series from Nvidia 1 or 2 cards

I don't plan on doing more than potential SLI

Thanks guys, going to RMA it today. Only bad side, is they won't pay for shipping :-(

Newer hardware of the same level is generally LESS power hungry, not more. The number of HDs/fans/etc. is generallly irrelevant to psu choice compared to the gfx solution.

Call customer support and ask them if you can step up your current model. They have done that for me before.

Wish JonnyGuru did a review on the Seasonic 860w Platinum. I've seen Anand's review on it but the graphs were displaying the wrong perspective from the results.
