Hurry up Intel

Intel hurry up and get these Conroe chips onto the market, because im dying here with this P3 600 in front of me. Everytime i plan to upgrade, something better comes along, and i wait, then i dont end up upgrading. This time i have money to splash, and im getting anxious to bye something. It better be worth the wait.

Ouch...kinda reminds me of a gambling addict (with respect).
Something better will ALWAYS be coming along! Conroe should be available in retail by September or so (though you might be able to get one sooner if you want to pay the premium...).

Intel hardly even needs to "launch" Conroe CPU's, they are trickling out all over the place. Some dude just got ahold of 300 of them (and posted pics to prove it) which he says are the final production revision. Keep your eyes on Ebay if you really must have one quick and are willing to pay a premium.

P3 600? Wow... you need a Conroe even more badly than I do... (my Conroe will be replacing a 1.9 Willamette...)

If you read the fine print, many places are actually allowed to change the pricing once the parts are shipping (even if you have prepaid). They refund your money and then sell you the same thing for more money (they get away with it by changing their internal SKU).
If you could provide a link, maybe we could all take a look and see what they are offering?

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/sho...=011003000509_BK12401P.shtml&ORDER_ID=!ORDERID!

The "Order As Needed" box is why they will take your money now...the part can take as long as it takes (i.e. 6 months from now) for receipt in that price range, with no timeframe guarantee.

Edit: To be a little clearer, I expect that Intel will be shipping ~200k Conroes at launch, and the number will increase every month. After Dell, HP, etc... get their priority allotments, there should be ~10k chips left to be spread among all of the retailers. So if a retailer has an order in for 1000 chips (fairly modest order), they will most likely get 20-30 chips the first month, maybe 40-50 the second month, etc...
The common practice among retailers is to sell the small allotment they get for much higher prices as a special promotion chip, usually for ~20-40% higher than MSRP, until they start to get shipments at the 50% level or higher...

Makes sense, but just to see how it works out I've placed my order. If they raise the price they don't get my order...if it's delayed, I have the chance to order elsewhere, and if their face value claim works out, I get a nice computer built sooner rather than later.

I'll be sure to let everyone know how it works out though.

Wauv! I thought I was patient waiting to upgrade my P4 2,0 ghz nw! Already pushed the new build at least 3 times... guess that's a lesson to prove that I should get something done about it soon...

Thanks! That'll be good input, mate...

It's not that bad...it's just a question of time. Early adopters ALWAYS pay more...
By Octoberor so it should be close to sorted out...

Well, it appears you have waited since about 1998/1999/2000 with that P3 600. What's a couple of more months? 🙂

From the Conroe benchmarks I've seen so far I've been impressed.

Yikes, and i thought i had it bad when i gave my 2500XP to my brother. Currently my server is running on an old Athlon 1500... it's functional with Windows MCE, but i need an upgrade asap so i can start running Vista on it.

I'm like you though, i'm holding off for Conroe. If prices come down on ebay more, i may just pick one up from there instead.
