Is this only with your DVD player as the source input or does it happen with TV as well (assuming you have digital audio from a cable or DTV box). Are you certain your DVD player isn't doing something about the dialog level?

I have tried late night mode on low and high, all it does for me is turn the sound effects down. the dialog is still the same.

I would suggest you read the manual carefully. It has a lot of information, especially for those who're not AV enthusastic.

I have read the manual alot alrdy, i asked this a while back on a A/V forum and 3 other ppl had the same problem as me.

I acually have tried three different dvd players and a ps2 and a xbox. All the same

The dialog only seems soft when the volume is like 45 and under. like above 50 everything sounds great. i dunno guyz, i kinda gave up a while ago but if anyone has any idea i'll love to hear them

thx

I just checked with the J&R site and it's $399.99

Reread: Friday only sale. 🙁

My brother has an older model, the TX-SV70pro which he claims he paid around $900 for at CCity some years ago. Is there any way to compare the two?

I don't know about you. But I played Lord of Rings II on my 601 last night. The center channel is loud (I used default volume settings). In fact I think it's a bit too loud compared to the L&R main speakers. As to the Dialog Norm +4db thing, read the manual. Manual has a description about this. I think it indicates automatic adjustment of center channel level based on the input source.

Try hooking up one of your main speakers as the center channel.

That's what I was thinkin' too, to see if the speaker can be ruled out as the culprit. RaNDoMMAI, is the center a reasonable match for the mains? I know you said the problem did not exist with a previous receiver. If it is that bad maybe have it checked out at a service center.
