Hurrry up and buy it before the price goes down!

That seems to be the buying mentality for computer hardware!

Of course you don't really acknowledge this fact until you're forced to NOT buy (like me who's been waiting for my AMEX Blue card to come in)

It is just a consumers market out there! Just a for instance, the AMD Thunderbird 1.33GHz CPU started at about $315 a couple of weeks ago...Last time I checked it's already down to $234.

There is just no REAL need to rush to buy!

Well you have to pay the price to have the latest technology....price drops are usually forced by new technology being released.

The best time to buy a CPU is now because they're at the best price.

I've heard that one before. (man trying to persuade his wife into letting him buy a cpu!) 😛

Cheers!

status, mainly, and also just to tool around with it and see how high you can get the fsb to go. a new toy.

If you want to have the fastest available, you can't wait. I played that game for quite a while, but right now I can't afford to play it. Too much money spent repairing my car & paying off debts. Once I'm out of debt, though, I plan on jumping back in head first. VapoChill, a 1.33 gig AXIA TBird, 768 MB RAM, a GF3, & either a 19 - 21" CRT or ~17" LCD (haven't decided yet). Gotta love fast computers.

I finally pulled my head out of my ass and realized that you're a moron if you go for the "latest and greatest". Women don't flock to you because you have a $500 CPU. Non-geeks look at you funny when you spent a month's mortgage payment on a video card. Thrifty geeks think you are a fool when you spend more on one component than they did on their whole PC.

It's just not worth it. OOOOh you get 5% more performance at 300% of the price. Sounds like a great deal....to the person who sold it to you 😉 Hell, half the time when you buy the latest thing on the market, it's usually buggy, and unstable. You have to wait out for 3 or 4 driver revisions or BIOS updates to get the thing up to par.

I used to upgrade components once a month. Not any more. I have better things to do with my money.

"[w]hat is the need to buy a 1.33GHZ CPU anyways? Does any home user really need it, or is it a status symbol? "

I NEED it. I NEEDITNEEDITNEEDIT. Gotta have it. Now. Just get outta my way.....😀

Viper, I thought you just traded in your PIII 933 MhZ for a shiny new T-Bird 1GHZ (and a new mobo, obviously)...? 😕

YES i do brag about how cheap my athlon 650 was to buy AND if there is no rush to buy a faster cpu, then WHY are they going to make the NEXT generation of faster chips? no one seems to be talking about what's around this corner. its like making faster cars when the speed limit is set.

I did. I sold my P3 & BF6 & bought a used TBird 800 & an ASUS A7V133. I broke even (roughly), which is why I was able to do it. The TBird doesn't do a gig, unfortunately. It's not even stable at 800, I dunno WTF is wrong with it. Plus I'm running a Voodoo3. Yuck.

I don't think it's the CPU's fault... This weekend I'm probably going to take it out, scrub it down with lacquer thinner, do a better job of unlocking it, change the multiplier, & then re-assemble it. I'll also probably re-install Windows. I need to have it perfectly stable, I'm going to need it to be reliable. I'm taking online classes starting Monday, & I can't afford to screw with an unstable PC. I'll be happy if I can get it stable at 933/133.

Viper GTS "let the dead bury their dead, come and follow me" Jesus.
what do you think that means? (noticed the lyrics at the bottom of your reply)

I've always been a bang for the buck guy. To me $145 for my G450 seemed really expensive. I paid $110 for my T-bird that's running at 1GHz (133fsb)

Mountain:

That's a line from a movie, The Crow.

It's spoken by Eric Draven, to a police officer who has him at gunpoint after realizing the he's the killer of a resident scumbag they found dead. It's in reference to the group of thugs who killed him & his girlfriend a year earlier. He's in the process of hunting them all down.

It's the best line from what is probably the best movie I've ever seen, it is not intended in any way to be blasphemous.

Viper GTS.
I was NOT implying that you were. really. i happen to know some of the more unknown quotes from the bible and it reminded me of that one. i'm pretty laid back about the b. thing. just wondering if you think there would be any connection. interesting to hear about a movie that has some effect.

I dunno if they're connected...

But if you haven't seen the movie I'd highly recommend it. I've watched it twice in the last week.

I think in total, the system I have now cost me $650 max, and it works great for anything I do, even Cstrike and hopefully Tribes2 and B&W 🙂
