I got a prescription for Accutane, but my mother is apparently afraid of it. She thinks I'll either suffer massive liver failure and die or get really depressed and kill myself or choke on a pill and die, blah blah blah (exaggeration but you get the point) but anyways i think she's overreacting.
The pills come "mounted" to a peice of cardboard, and you basically push one pill out through the cardboard back every time you take one. The entire package has four "panes" of cardboard, which fold together, and the last pane has the pills on it.
I ripped the peice of cardboard with the pills on it off of each big four pane peice, so now I have a bunch of pills in my drawer and my mom has nine pieces of cardboard which she thinks the pills are in.

Thanks Mom!

You should be happy she is so concerned about your health and well being.

/me has no mother to fuss over me :(

Accutane is potent stuff. I have considered using it but my GF has forbidden me to.

My acne has been disappearing on its own for the last 6 years. I had it very bad in my late teens and early 20s.

Good luck

i was on accutane for about 6 months and i have yet to die. ill probably be going back on it again soon too. :)

(they make it sound really scary, but thats just so they cant get in trouble if you DO get depressed and hang yourself.)

My dr prescribe accutane to me after I took the other one for 1 years, I decide I should able to live with acne than live with bunch of side effects. I did some search for accutane from the www and see a lot of side effect of this medicine, I decided I am not going to get the medicine. Now, I am not taking any acne medicine, but after I tried no less than 20 over the counter & prescribtion medicine, I discovered one very cheap and commonly used thing that work very very good FOR ME, Hydrogen Peroxide, a 50c hydrogen peroxide work much better than any thing I tried up to $25 a tube of german made acne medicine. I used it twice a day, it work especially good when the acne starting to appear. I used a cotton ball and soak with HP, apply to the acne area, it will be very itch but won't hurt, unless you got a open wound skin. I haven't purchase any acne medicine for a long time, and also I save the $20 deductable to see the dr.

accutane blows.

it is series stuff too, why do you think you have to get blood tests every 2 weeks to make sure you're not gonna fvcking die.

I hated every day of the 4 months I was on it, toward the second half I dropped my dosage myself cause I was tired of the total complete dryness. this sh1t didn't even work that well, fortunately I'm 20 now and my acne has proceeded to pretty much go away on its own.

actually, youre probably just a retard. they make you go get blood tests to make sure that you dont need to take any extra vitamins or anything. the reason it didnt work for you is because you dropped your fvcking dosage.. they give you a certain amount that has to do with your body weight... obviously its not going to work if you dont take it how youre supposed to. the dryness is a pretty obvious side effect as accutane basically destroys your oil glands (according to many articles ive read).. the solution to that is to take vitamin e pills 2-3 times a day and, if necessary (as it was for me), apply vitamin e oil. accutane is very very harsh on your skin, but if you take care of yourself it will lessen the side effects. when i was all finished, my skin was pretty much perfect - never oily, never dry, no zits whatsoever. so uhh. yeah. accutane does not blow. thank you very much. :)

(i cant believe i just wrote that much to defend accutane..)

Worked GREAT for me. It eradicated my acne like nobody's business. No real side effects. The constant bloodwork was a pain though.

Squeezin' pimples is great entertainment and family fun. Why would you want that to go away?

hmmm accutane was a bad experience for me. for the first two months i had terrible pains in my joints and muscles, and my acne got significantly worse for the first month (that is normal for everyone though). in addition, i play classical trumpet and the extreme dryness in my lips caused a large amount of grief.

I am sooooo glad I never had acne problems as a teen!!! Though, now that I'm in my 30's I still get the occasional pimple. But I can predict when they will come... Whenever I have 2-3 really stressful days in a row I get 3-4 pimples. heh

Of course, I paid for it. :| Chicken Pox at 32. :| Now I'm all pox-scarred. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Actually the blood tests are to check liver function and to monitor cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Secondly my doctor is a dumbass who gave me an incredibely high dosage I later found out from an actual dermatologist. I only weighed 150lbs at the time I was taking it, and I believe I was taking the 10mg tablets twice a day. I didn't lower my dosage till the final month after which point it was not doing miracles on my face. It helped mildly, but definitely not worth the side effects that accompanied it.

I have witnessed very successful people who have taken accutane, but I definitely don't recommend it to my friends, especially my friends who don't really have acne, they just get pimples once in a while and think they need it.

I recently went to a dermotologist for acne (on the back!!! why o why).
He basically recommanded 3 solutions.
1. Antibiotics (Adoxa) + topical cream -- less effective but no side effect
2. Accutane -- effective with possible side effects
3. Laser -- THE cure

Anyway, I'm trying out method #1 right now.
I don't think I'll ever do #2 since I don't want to deal with the possibility.
#3...well, I'm not a girl so I don't really have to care about my skin that much, but apparently it not only cures acne, it also take care of scars left by acne so if you've got about $1000 for 4-5 treatments, you might want to consider this.

yeah the triclycerides are the main thing.. if theres a problem you take omega-3 fish oil or something. maybe the second doctor was a dumbass cause i was on 40mg a day and i weighed from 95-105. so yeah, your dosage was already too low, and then you lowered it more? (btw, you said "towards the second half" which made me believe it was earlier in the treatment that you lowered it. regardless, you were already on a dosage that was too low.)
