It's only windy until a stray stop sign comes flying through and slices you in half... then it's just all dark... at least for you.

^ no I have no interest in either of those shows. But is it not possible for a sign to be uprooted, or simply blown off its mounts?

Easily broken/dislodged by misc debris, they aren't rated for contact with 200mph objects.

And yes, a stop sign (or any other thin, flat object) flying at 150+mph could easily dismember a human.

I looked it up, and, yes, signs are designed to break/bend to protect drivers that drive into them:
https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/local_rural/training/fhwasa09025/#c4
A sign support can become a deadly hazard when struck by a vehicle that drives onto the roadside; therefore, there is an MUTCD standard that requires all roadside sign supports in the clear zone (see Appendix B for description of clear zone) to be breakaway, yielding, or shielded by a barrier or crash cushion. ‘Breakaway’ is a term to describe crash tested sign supports that break or bend upon impact. This includes sign supports that, when struck by a vehicle, separate from the base and are knocked ahead of or up and over the errant vehicle. A ‘yielding’ support refers to a support that bends, allowing a vehicle to run over it

At those wind speeds pretty much anything weighing even half a pound, or more, can be deadly. The stop sign is just gory deadly, besides the car won't be able to shield him if a stray stop sign ventured his way.
