This is going to cost quite a bit. Forbes saying over 20B.
Given that the financial markets are centered in NY, every day they are shut down racks up huge losses.

Also, with NYC being one of the most densely populated areas in the US, the losses per square mile will be extraordinarily high compared to your typical coastal town.

Yeah, I don't see Wall St operating without the subways.

JPeyton Did you take those pictures yourself? Most of the pictures in 1049, 1052 and 1053 are Long Island City in Queens and I recognize the spot. We were hunkered down on a high floor of one of those buildings last night, and could only see the storm surge come in from the South. Scary stuff, I didn't realize until just now how high the water was... and I've been out walking around most of those places earlier today!

Some pictures I took from my neighborhood. Thankfully, I did not lose power. The last one was a block away - probably what was causing my flickering lights last night.

He's just aggregating them from elsewhere. Where in LIC are you? I'm a few minutes walk from Astoria Park.

I'm surprised the flooding wasn't worse in Astoria. It seems like LIC had some flooding but Astoria park seems to have come out unscathed

There are a couple of photos that look staged. E.g., in this one, things just didn't look quite... "right." http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/10/30/article-2225108-15C35834000005DC-339_964x645.jpg

Why's everything all tipped over? Upturned plant with soil intact - if that was knocked down because of water, it wouldn't look like that. Ditto the basket near the door - all those bags landed next to each other, under other debris - if there was water, they would have floated off separately. I would think that picture was more the aftermath of an Earthquake, rather than flood damage.

I'm in LIC in one of the big buildings in some of those pictures.

The storm surge came in primarily from Newtown creek, and the people living between Borden Ave. and 50th Street got the worst of it. They still have the power out. Some further North had power off pre-emptively, but I think it was all back on by morning in the rest of the LIC waterfront area. How'd you do up in Astoria?
