Looks like a strong cat 2, else a cat 3 is going to hit the NE. NJ, NYC, LI, etc., have a pretty strong chance of getting nailed.

I haven't cared about the weather in years.

Every damn year the news says ITS THE WORST STORM EVER OMGGGG... and its just another storm. Every. Time. We had hail the size of golf balls in like 1996... that was the most interesting thing I've seen. And it did zero damage.

Are the warnings and doom and gloom for old people? Women?
 
Eh, just another storm. If I'm lucky, they'll cancel work for a couple days (can't do earthwork in the rain!)
 
We are so overdue for a NE strike. Hurricane watchers are all excited to see this thing entangle with the approaching cold front.

Can you point me where they've said such a thing about a previous storm? I'm particularly interested in the "worst storm ever" quote.

This storm is rather unique. If the computer models verify what the Northeast will see is something similiar to the "Perfect Storm" from 1991. You remember the movie a while back that Mark Whalberg was in? That was an actual weather event.

Much of the Northeast will experience bad weather like a very strong noreaster but a catastrophe like a Hurricane Andrew or Katrina on a concentrated area will not happen. Still, there could be some bad damage from flooding along the coast because this one could be quite bad as far as noreasters go.
 
That's odd that you chose to mention "perfect storm." I was thinking of that movie as well and thought, "wow, same scenario of the meeting of storms, except this time, it'll be over PA & NY, instead of out to sea. I just saw mention of "Frankenstorm." It could be the worst storm to hit the area since 1938. One thing's for sure - just in case, I'll pick up about 30 gallons of gas this weekend (I need to fill the tank in the tractor anyway.) If needed, it's easy to drain the tractor's gas. That'll keep the generator going for a few days - if it comes to that. It's really more of winter prep though - where I'm at (rural), I'm a lower priority for restoring power should we lose power.
 
Oh geez, Hey Anubis - get your shovel ready! I saw that we could end up with snow. I thought, "no big deal; it's almost November.

Unfortunately the Antares rocket is sitting on the pad in Wallops Island, VA right now with no way to move it before the storm hits. Let's hope the track moves farther north or east. Once vertical I think it is rated for a max of 70mph winds.

Milk was already cleared out from the local supermarket. Fortunately I use cream or half & half in my coffee.

The trees are gorgeous - but trees with tons of wet leaves are likely to come down when the winds kick up. The neighbors have a poll going on how long the power will be out for this one. Hope my candle collection holds out.

I still have a few cans of food I stocked up last year for Hurricane Irene. Maybe now I'll finally use them. Tuna and ravioli.

I love to watch all the local TV stations go nuts with the coolest Hurricane graphics and the inevitable news guy standing on the shore and getting blown over by the winds and waves. Hmm, what music will they use for this?

Hoping this one isn't horrible.
 
Why do all the storms making the news and causing damage have to be girls?

Current reports say going to make landfall in Jersey. Not going to be all that bad in terms of wind speed, category 1 or even strong tropical storm as it's hitting cooler water as it moves north. But moving slow and hitting during a full moon, so flooding and a strong storm surge are the big worries.

Switch to Bailey's. Less likely to be sold out in advance of a natural disaster, and more appropriate to put in your coffee during/after said disaster.
