I don't know what the Rays are going to do. The stadium otherwise looks intact but can't imagine MLB will let them play there with no roof. Thing is, they are building a new stadium but that will take a couple years. Not sure how much $$$ anyone is going to want to pump to put a new roof on.

Well Tampa's average home game attendance was already extremely poor and I can't imagine this is going to help. MLB could let them play home games elsewhere through until either repairs are made or their new stadium is open.

Maybe they need to move the team to a friendlier home...
 
Had about 90 MPH gusts here. Only some downed branches and a bit of facia ripped up so could not be happier. Never lost power more than a minute and only once. Internet was out for 6hrs or more and is spotty now, but can't complain.

Water treatment plant is fine so no boil water orders. We have been hearing chainsaws so some neighbors must have had more serious tree problems.

I went outside when the eye passed over and surveyed. It helped me sleep better.

News says 50K linemen are working to restore power, so hang in there fellow Florida man and woman. Birds and Squirrels are eating in the backyard so they made it too. Have not seen the feral cat we feed, we named Mongo yet, but he is brute, I expect he'll show up for dinner.

My neighborhood didn't get power back for 9.5 days, and the most common sound was generators and chain saws. Now two weeks after Helene, it's still chain saws with wood chippers replacing generators. Daughter, who lives about 5 miles away, got power 14 days after Helene.

Birds and squirrels back to normal quickly, but I haven't seen much of our black bears, which were almost coming through daily. But my old hound dog rushes out on the deck to bark when he smells them, so they are still here.

Water, what's that? The water distribution system was destroyed two weeks ago, and the only estimate for even non-potable water is in weekS.

Hang in there brother. Potable water is the worst thing to be without. Decades of hurricane after hurricane have given our local city and county workers the experience to harden things as much as possible. And of course previous storms have removed so many of the trees and old power poles that caused outages. The lines are underground at my house and in most of my neighborhood.

I have decided to have my big oak removed this winter. It is simply too close to the house, trimmed back or not. 2 people a county over were killed by trees falling on their homes.

Good news: Mongo showed up for canned food last night. Mongo only pawn in game of life.

In 2004, we went through an almost identical problem when Hurricane Ivan hit this area. The powers that be, decided to prevent a reoccurrence by installing a hardened backup line, and they buried it 25' deep, far more protection than required to deal with another Ivan. Helene said, 'hold my beer and watch this'.

Underground lines would be nice, but on steep mountain sides, often very rocky, that's not happening.

Oaks and pines are probably the majority of tree species that came down, followed by maples. Popular trees, often as massive, almost never fall. 30+ years as a volunteer firefighter responding to numerous tree on house calls, it has never been a popular.

A neighbor down the street with a spring on their property rigged up a catch method and ran a hose down to the bottom of their driveway. I hauled probably 50 gallons of spring water home today for flushing, and even washing. Using the 90 gal rolling trash can for storage.

Pets no longer have the "song of my people" (the electric can opener), since it all pull tab now. Glad Mongo's home.
