Hurricane maybe?

The hurricane is predicted to park its ass off the NJ coast. Just f***ing excellent. I wonder if it's going to do a Sandy and say, hey, I wonder what that stinking pile of sewage over there to the West is. Let me check that out.

Hermine is whaling outside right now as one of the large and strong feeder bands rakes the east coast of Florida. It woke me up about an hour ago when it started getting rough outside banging the soffit and the gate. I made a pot of coffee just in case I lose power so I'll of least had some for today. I'm hoping that the power will hold since we buried utilities but that doesn't always matter. I heard the power substation humming earlier once it became rain soaked.,

The wind just calmed down for a minute and I can hear the power substation humming quite loudly right now. I was trying to read my textbooks but it's hard to concentrate on the material right now. I do have my flashlights handy for when I lose power.

You may be in eye of Hurricane Hermine!

I am watching along with you.

Well Hermine was downgraded to a tropical storm by the NWS but the winds continue as before. I'm not in the eye, too far east of landfall, but the strongest remaining feeder band stretches across most of the state and will pass over my area once again as it lifts to the north. I'm sure that by the end of the day the local news will be filled with flooding stories from the poorest neighborhoods in the city of Jacksonville. The rich get working drainage and the poor get flooded each year. At least the drains in my area can handle this amount of rainfall but not so many years ago a tropical system flooded the main road to us forcing motorists in cars to turn back as it was almost two feet deep on the roadway.

Made it. Didn't flood. No trees down. Power's been out since 11pm. Tallahassee says they've got 70000 with no power. They just started sending repair crews out about 2 hrs ago so don't know when it will be restored. Thousands of small branches down violating my husband's pristine lawn but he'll manage. So much better than a lot of things that could have happened.

Glad to here!

Part of me is wishing a huge hurricane would wipe out Florida and all of its people. The other, more humane side of me, wishes a huge hurricane would wipe out Florida and all of its people as well.

Wishing death on all of Florida, then doubling down on that wish, was . . . unwise on your part.

This damn rain we got up in MD last night might have fucked up my fishing plans for this weekend because now the river is running faster.

Glad to hear you weathered the storm.

Now they're saying could be 2-4 days to restore power. Sigh. May have to find a hotel. Spoiled first worlder that I am, no air conditioning and no internet makes me twitchy.

No air conditioning on the Gulf Coast is a pretty serious deal. Especially after a storm, it seems like it's always really hot after they hit. I remember the nights after Katrina... we slept in truck beds outside. So bad.

We decided to stay rather than do the drive to North Carolina. Probably a smart move. No wedding = smoked short ribs tonight.

I think some super smart politician should build a hurricane wall.
Or perhaps even a marginally intelligent, emotionally disturbed, borderline delusional one...😉

Seems unlikely. Fortunately for us up North, it's down to a tropical storm already and seems to be continuing to diminish... Can't say I'm unhappy not to be "officially ending Summer" with a hurricane...

I thought you would catch the worst of it, the feeder bands weren't too bad here, just a lot of rain.

glad to hear ya made it, was a small one.

I think some super smart politician should build a hurricane wall. Make those destructive bastids pay for it too.
If they'd lashed Trump and Pence to a pylon along the coast and let them spew their rhetoric the enormous quantities of hot air might have repelled the storm.😛

We have power! More importantly, I have coffee! And internet! All's right with my little world. Thanks for all the messages of concern. We definitely dodged a bullet with this one.

Maybe it's going to say "Damn, that stinking pile of sewage needs to be washed out to sea" and then roll up its sleeves and pitch in to clean things up. All that will be left is an oil slick of orange spray-tan on the surface of the ocean.

In advance, thank you Hermine!! Oh, and stay south of Connecticut if you don't mind.
