A few of the weather models are showing the disturbance that just moved off Africa to develop into a hurricane. Conditions are pretty good for it right now... and for it to possibly impact the US. (Florida?)

Any disturbance off Africa this time of the year can eventually become a hurricane. And any disturbance off Africa can fail to develop and be absolutely nothing 2 days from now. And a butterfly can beat its wings which kicks up a speck of dust which makes a monkey sneeze which startles a herd of wildebeest which stampede which...

No one cares about Florida. It's just god trying to wash the dirt off the US' boots with the power washer.

Last I heard there was a hurricane out in the mid Atlantic, not headed for land, and two headed toward Hawaii.

Not all disturbances have an equal likelihood of developing though. There are some conditions which make development to a hurricane damn near impossible, and conditions that make them more probable. (e.g., light winds aloft - no wind shear)

Gaston, cat 3, in the Atlantic. Not headed anywhere near land.
Lester, cat 3, and Madeline, cat 4, are both threatening Hawaii.
There's also tropical depression 9 in the Gulf of Mexico, which is forecast to strike the Florida panhandle as it develops - though forecast as a tropical storm at that point, I think I saw that a hurricane watch has been issued. After it exits into the Atlantic, it'll still pose a threat to Georgia and the Carolinas.

For once hurricane season has been very kind to Texas.
God damnit!

Do you want to jinx us! Last time we got hit was by Ike just after Labor Day in 08.

So let's just take it easy with the "it's been kind", while we still have months of hurricane season left.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ Yep NE FL is slated to get the precipitation from TD9 over the next few days. Last storm that rolled through here brought my neighborhood an EF0 tornado that passed just across the street from me. My security cameras caught the white rain wrapped funnel coming across the adjacent block passing over it where it made its way onto I-10 stopping traffic.

Christ, if the Hurricane Gods hear that you're doomed. With all the rain Louisiana and southeast Texas have already gotten this year one good hurricane and everything between Houston and New Orleans might wash out to sea.

Time to pray to the Hurricane Flying Spaghetti Monster.

The wife has been worried about the depression in the area here, has been raining a lot.

It doesn't look like it will be anywhere near hurricane force.

I haven't bothered with putting water in the pool awhile and it's over flowing.

we were supposed to drive to North Carolina today for a wedding on Saturday. Holding off at least a day at this point to see what happens. Not thrilled with driving that distance through a tropical storm or hurricane.

I just don't want to deal with the Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency again. Took 18 months last time to finally recover the money for the damages my insurance should have covered.

We're smack in the Hurricane Hermine path. Tonight's forecast from NOAA reads "East wind 30 to 35 mph becoming east northeast 45 to 55 mph. Winds could gust as high as 75 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts in excess of 4 inches possible.

For me, I think the major worry is that one of the live oaks topples into the house. They are huge. And close. I am not in a flood zone and don't have flood insurance, so am crossing my fingers that some really crazy thing doesn't happen.

We are having a drought in the northeast. Water restrictions and even bans against outside watering. Need rain.

Texas had the rainiest August in 100 years. At least that's what this morning's newspaper said.

Like I always say -- be afraid -- be very afraid of a woman`s wrath!
Right, because the guys are always the kinder and gentler of the species (have you forgotten Hurricane Andrew already?)...

Good luck, and stay safe during what's now become a hurricane.
