I think more people would evacuate if we stopped giving the hurricanes such cute names.

It'd be better to give them bad names. Like "Clarence". No one would stick around in town if they knew "Clarence" was coming.

So I dont get that photo of the superdome. if its not white, does that mean its exposing the interiior? or is just the top layer shredding away
I'm fairly sure that you're seeing the complete interior of the dome. There's a steel structure holding the whole thing up, but the white top appears to be fabric that's ripping away.

So if water is going over some of these levies or whatever the're called won't that water wash a big gouge in the thing and go right through?

so no one knows if this is a concern?

i thought the levies were concrete...i would think the only thing to worry about would be spillover and the water being trapped afterwards

and the wdsu feed is showing the footage we saw before

They're mostly earth. No substantiated reports about widespread failures.

Anyone else been reading the reports at the bottom of the screen on Fox and a couple of other stations? It's almost like they're rushing to report what turns out to be false rumors... as if the truth isn't enough, they're relying on sensationalism to keep viewers watching. I've finally turned off the tv in disgust - very little accurate reporting... Examples: the pumps in NO are down, the pumps in NO are failing, and later, everything in the French Quarter is peachy, the pumps are working great. The last I saw was that the levees on the Lake were breeched. It's almost as if the news stations are desperate to keep people tuned in.

I was under the impression they were earthen too. I'm thinking that even a trickle through that could lead to widespread failure.

LOL, I just mailed the feedback link (seems to go to the General Manger) and said Marcus is the sh1t! 😀
Are you talking about the link here? If so, I can see how to send something to "general comments," but not the general manager.

Went home for lunch

Anyway...Apparently, Mayor Nagin gave an interview on the Weather Channel:

Confirms reports of levees failing and or being over taken. Widespread reports of damage all over the city.

Superdome is structurally sound. Half of the soft outer roof has been blown off.

Had to evacuate City Hall because the building was swaying too much, now staying in a hotel.

Did you guys see those friggin morons on CNN, testing the winds as guinea pigs? LMAO!! Even the news anchor back at the studio was smirking at their fame-whoring stupidity!

OK, I assume that "parrish" means something similar to "city" right? I'm sorry, but I'm from the Midwest and "parrish" here is a church.
