CNN is talking to the authorities about arresting people for looting. I think you would be better off if you got arrested. At least they would take you to jail (or wherever they are keeping the prisoners) and give you some food and water.
There's no jail to take people to; they're being ticketed, and once the city is back and operational, they'll have warrants placed on them and run through the judicial system.

WASHINGTON (AP): It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars to rebuild a city that's seven feet under sea level, House Speaker Dennis Hastert said of federal assistance for hurricane-devastated New Orleans.

If Congress is even discussing the idea, then I'm thinking the debate is going to happen. This is going to be a looooong rebuilding process, if it happens at all

wtf....fine if something ever happens to chicago i guess we shouldnt rebuild that cause its close to a lake

why the hell is he making statements like that instead of talking about getting people out

Hey, this is one guy, he doesn't talk for Chicagoans (I am one). I am shocked and appalled at his comments. They are completely unnecessary at this time

Also, i'm pretty sure he's from downstate

a real pounding is about to ensue in louisiana.

g'bye Louis., i'll always regret never getting to know you.
Blame it on me.

Last year, right after I went to Florida on vacation, the hurricanes started (within a week or so after we left).

Then, in September last year, I went to Seattle with my daughters for a friend's wedding. The day after we left is when Mt. St. Helens started erupting again.

And, again, just a few weeks ago I was in Florida on vacation (and went to New Orleans twice back in June).

😉

OMG, you're evil. Please don't ever visit Niagara Falls. 🙁

I was there 19 mos. ago! :Q

BTW, Jesse Jackson is on. Pretty bad it's come to this where an activist has to get on TV to plead for help the government should be providing (and should have provided 3 days ago!)

On an offbeat note: perhaps I've been watching the stream too long and my head's fried, but am I the only one that finds the lady covering the press conferences particularly good looking for a reporter? 😀

guy inside the Convention Center is talking to Wolf. Raymond Cooper: "Please DO NOT send in armed National Guard unles you have someone in charge to tell the people what is happening. I am ex military, I know. There are kids in here with guns, they are like Zombies, half dead, they are about to go crazy. You know what will happen. I am begging you"

And, ViRGE, yeah, she's a cutey!

Yeah, she's hot, I've always thought so.

WWL-TV: The Oakwood Mall is on fire. Emergency crews are on the scene, but water pressure is so low, firefighters are having a tough time keeping the blaze under country.

"With offers from the four corners of the globe pouring in, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has decided "no offer that can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted area will be refused," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Thursday."

What, about 3 days late? Good job, Condi.

it's ridiculous what's happening over there.

CNN is talking to a man at the charity hospital that was under sniper fire....NOT A RUMOR...

from cnn

"Hospitals are trying to evacuate," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesan, spokesman at the city emergency operations center. "At every one of them, there are reports that as the helicopters come in people are shooting at them. There are people just taking pot shots at police and at helicopters, telling them, 'You better come get my family."'

OMFG!

you mean to tell me you believe this sh!t! they are getting sniped but are close enough to hear what the person is saying? BSSSSSSSSS!

i guarantee you if they could make out what this person was saying amongst all that confusion they had to be pretty close and the person would be killed on the spot.

what bs!

thats the scariest thing I have read about this whole ordeal so far. Its almost like the military has to WAIT now until these people are dead in order to go back in there.

hell on earth.
