It was a woman who lived through it, she was telling her own story. So you're pretty much calling her a liar even though you weren't there.

OK so Chevron, an oil/gas company gave the most. Where's Exxon/Mobile who reports record profits quarterly and continually has the highest price of gas of any stations around? Hmm, now we see the corporate greed of the largest oil company in the world.

I am disappinted in the list of companies donating. Not b'c of the amounts, but because there is a lack of enough companies offering $$/water/food.

Where is Microsoft? Intel? Where are people like Opra? Gates?

These people need food and water, first and foremost.

I'd also like to see more cities get involved. Especially surrounding cities. I am thinking about calling the Memphis mayor's office, we just got the new FedEx Forum, and the Pyramid is a rather large arena collecting dust, should house at least 5000 people.

Every little bit helps.
I believe the Pyramid has the Wonders exhibit as well as a movie set being built in it. There has been talk of using the Mid South Coliseum. I know I have seen tons of cars with LA plates around town. The Memphis and Shelby county schools are letting LA residents enroll as well as the University of Memphis. I believe Desoto county schools in north MS are doing the same.

You have to understand also the element of people that they are interviewing.

You're assuming people are watching/listening to "shock jocks"

Since you live in Kentucky, I assume the only access you have is the national shock jocks.

Here are some local links that shed some more light on the ongoing events.

You know what they say about ASSume?

See the OP in this thread? See the links to WWL, WDSU and others? Plus MSNBC live feed?

well then she is a liar, or the person who told her that is a liar. cause they never released any inmates, they simply escorted them out of the prison onto the I-10 onramp to get away from the water.

they had a sheriff deputy on the news explaining how people took it from "guards escorting prisoners to the interstate and watching them" to "prisoners on the interstate under guard" to "prisoners on the interstate" to "omg prisoners on the loose on the interstate!!!1111!1!one"

its the telephone game:frown:

Good we need some more local support!

WDSU: WASHINGTON -- The aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman is heading to the Gulf Coast Thursday to serve as a floating command center for hurricane relief operations.

An aircraft carrier actually operating off the coast of US; this is almost surreal.

Think about it for a second. Anytime there is a castastrophic event. Hurricane, Tornado, etc. the cameras always flock to the most ignorant people possible. It is all a marketing scheme.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Some gas stations in Memphis are running out of gas. I just left my local station downtown, and they have nothing, no premium or anything. I just talked to a friend who was able to fill up this morning, he said the price of regular went up 50 cents/gallon while he was in line (up to 3.15/gallon). I am a little worried, as I only have a qtr tank left, but I work at home and have a fuel-efficient car. But I know others are not as lucky. I've stocked up on a few days worth of food/water/cigarettes and am hoping this is temporary.

About fvcking time, I was thinking about that idea earlier today.

About 90 miles from Memphis, the same thing is happening in Tupelo. Some local stations are out of gas, but I was able to feel up this morning just before the price jumped another $0.20.

The local newstation said not to worry, as tankers are on there way. But, a coworker told me this morning that's not the case. Power is still out in Meridian, MS, and the tankers can't load without electricity. He said he could be as much as a week before we get more.

I've got a close friend in Jackson, MS, and he says the lack of gas is really a problem down there. According to him, 90% of the stations don't have gas, and they are unsure when to expect more.

that's whats happening here in Baton Rouge with all the extra people from NO sheltering here... gas stations run out of gas faster than they can get new shipments

That certainly sucks. I am trying to figure out if I should keep driving around trying to find a station where I can fill up, or just squeeze my qtr tank for a week and see if things get a little better. I don't want to waste what I have now, but I kinda hate to wait, too.

cnn breaking news: "New Orleans hospital halts patient evacuations after coming under sniper fire, a doctor who witnessed the incident says. More soon."

I know that I?m happily sitting here in my cube at work in NY with no real understanding on what is going on in New Orleans, but from what you see online and on TV, it doesn?t seem like our Government is doing all it can do to help the people.

I think there may be some truth in that, but I also think that because the problem is so bad, and so wide-spread that it appears to be truer than it actually is. There are just so many people that still need to be rescued, and then so many people that need to be evacuated, that no matter how many resources we throw at the problem, it's just going to take more time.

There is plenty of gas in Memphis, but people keep rushing to the pumps and they can't get new shipments out fast enough. It seemed like every other car I saw was also filling up some type of gas container as well as the car.
