Just saw a dude in Houston driving an airboat down what looks like used to be a 4-5 lane city street on tv.

this city is fucked.

got about an hour of some pretty good thunder here in downtown houston but other than that this has been a bunch of nothing for me. southwest and north sides of town have gotten hammered pretty good though.

#blueshed
idiot.

idiot.

The damn thing keeps streaming rain bands over the city. It doesn't stop and is barely moving.

KPRC just said the 24 hour rain rate across Harris county equals 420 Billion Gallons of water.....

Yup we're fucked.

From the 10am CDT NHC advisory

Harvey continues to meander over southeastern Texas, where it
is producing catastrophic and life-threatening flooding rainfall.
NWS radars show that bands of deep convection continue to develop
over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and train over portions of
southeastern Texas, including the Houston/Galveston metropolitan
area. Rainfall amounts greater than 20-25 inches have already been
reported and flash flood emergencies and warnings have been issued
by local National Weather Service offices for a large portion of
southeastern Texas. Additional rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 inches
are expected over the next several days, and the NOAA Weather
Prediction Center is now forecasting isolated storm total amounts of
50 inches.

9.44 inches.

What's really awesome is when I came back inside after trying to see how full the lake is about 10 spiders ran inside from between my backdoor and storm door.

Went to get the bug spray and there was roach in the garage.

Looks like it's the apocalypse boys.
Got attacked by fire ants when I went out earlier, floating piles of them all over.

Man it is really bad. My coworker that covers Houston lives south of the city and I have not been able to get him on the phone, I am getting worried.

Houston is kinda fucked

'Feeder bands' or whatever they call them have just constantly been dumping moisture from the Gulf directly into Houston for what seems like the last 36 hours. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon. Stay safe, folks.

Those fire ants really suck. Hope you didn't get bit too much.

I must have ended up killing 30-40 wolf spiders.

Were there floating mini islands of ants?

Sort of. If you aren't aware Fire ants grab onto each other in flood waters and form giant floating balls. They then climb onto whatever they find including people.

How are you holding up? Our street flooded again and then receded again.... Now another band is starting, hoping it goes by quickly.

Our street is clear and the lake has receded but only by a few feet.

So overall better than 12 hours ago.

We're at 16.6 in for the day.

Holy crap that's like 40 - 50 feet?
About 30 feet over bottom of channel, "only" about 5 feet above designed top of bank for floods. The pictures of the bayous with all of the water up to tops of trees... are all designed floodways for these sort of storm surges (the bike path & all the greenery are all part of the emergency flood channel). However, "only" 3-5 feet over top of bank is really bad for nearby subdivisions...

What's scaring the shit out of me is seeing on the news roads that are just outside my neighborhood that are just completely full... meaning that my road can't be too far off

We need a goof multi hour break from the rain for drainage to take place but this f'ing storm refuses to move.

However if you didn't flood last night during the worst of it you'll probably be ok today.

At least that's what we're telling ourselves.
