Huntsman and his record--is he a RINO?

He worked with Obama, he increased spending ~38% (from ~16B to ~22B, see wikipedia) as governor of UT, he said the Stimulus was too small (from what I heard), he supported instate tuitition, even for people other than citizens (from what I heard from a member of the Republican Liberty Caucus) and he supports Cap n Trade (according to a member of the RLC who liked him at first until they heard about his support for Cap n Trade).

And he might not be neutral in the Iran-Israel conflict considering that it's been widely reported that he has ties to Iran and that he made a trip to Israel. Ron Paul never went out of his way to make a trip to Israel, so he's the only candidate who will be neutral.

In my opinion, anyone who worked with Obama has no business running against Dr. Paul in hopes of defeating Obama.

He also considers it necessary to be a superpower:

“We are less able to project the goodness, power and might of the United States,”

Why does he care so much about what China does or whether they're a super power? Why does he consider the U.S. government minding its own business to not be an option?
It sounds like he may start a trade war, cold war, or even a hot war with China.
According to the interview linked below, he supports raising the debt ceiling if there are spending cuts.

What's the point of not balancing the budget right away?

I'm going to pray to God every day that this asshole doesn't beat Dr. Paul.

Many of those topics seem like true republican stances.

Cap and Trade was the darling of George H.W. Bush and most republicans supported it (as it is a free market solution) before Democrats came on board. Read up on the history of it.

Increased spending is pretty much what all republicans do, even if they pretend to be against it.

Republicans pretty much agree that they want the US to be a superpower.

Travel plans or locations mean nothing about neutrality.

Anyone in congress now works with Obama (including Paul). Should they all be disqualified? They are shockingly government workers being paid by our tax dollars! Gasp!

Huntsman is insignificant, he will go nowhere and I suspect he will be gone by this time next year. He doesn't have a large enough following or name recognition. And yes, he is a RINO.

I doubt Mr Reagan would pass your litmus test.

We will see we will see. 2008 was really a riot, as almost the whole GOP POTUS field tried to be more right wing than the other, but who walked away with the nomination, it was McCain. Which just goes to show us, that while far Right wing GOP members are the most active, the GOP electorate is quite a bit to the left of the righty tighties.

And when its votes that win elections, Huntsman may do better than the righty tighties think. As he has a clear shot at rational Republicans, while the rest of the field split and split the far right wing GOP vote which is not very large to start out with into ever smaller pieces.

But still Huntsman will have to compete with Pawlenty and Romney and maybe some others in ONLY GOP PRIMARIES for where most of the GOP votes are.

I will never say this ever again, but that was pretty spot on 😛

Ron Paul got like 2% of the vote in the last primaries; there isn't much appetite out there for a hard libertarian candidate.

the problem is that both Huntsman and Romney have the same nomination path -- skip Iowa (where religious fundies have an outsized influence), win New Hampshire, make a good show in South Carolina (where, again, evangelicals wield an outsized influence), and then try to clean house in the Northeast and West on Super Tuesday.

there can be only one.

The former governor’s aim is to appeal to independents and moderate Republican voters that the rest of the field has so far largely ignored. While Huntsman’s opening ad called him the “ultimate conservative,” he has taken moderate positions on the environment, immigration and supports same sex civil unions—a stance that’s earned him the backing of several gay Republican groups...

His bet is that a bold break from the mold—marked by departures from party orthodoxy and standard political attacks on foes—will resonate when accompanied by an optimistic message calling for fundamental change.

Oh well, all these pictures tickle my funny bone. We have to remember a Rino is just short hand slag for a rhinoceros, one of the most dangerous big game animals on the planet.

Many a great wanna be big game hunters ended their careers messing with them. The unlucky few ended up impaled on their horn but most ended up as a grease spot after they simply ran over them.

Please, I need some help here, can anyone post a picture of a rhinoceros with say Sarah Palin or Michelle Backman impaled on their horn.

IMO, his candidacy is going nowhere, other being from an uber wealthy family he's got very little working for him.

He's got no base. He's got no organization. He's got no staff. Yeah, he can get some staff, but I think what's left now is other than 'top shelf'.

Besides family wealth, all I see is media attention/support.

Chuck Todd says the same thing.
