God damn this is one awful book.

Talk about taking a giant crap on your father's life work.

There should be crimes for what his son did with this pathetic attempt at continuing his legacy. I couldn't even get through ten pages of this crap before having to put it down.

I'm a huge Dune fan and I have no problem with this book. I own almost all of the books, only missing one.

The Butlerian Jihad series I enjoyed a lot. You can see the style of writing is coming over from the Saga of Seven Suns series as Kevin J Anderson's influence. The Duke Leto narrative right before Dune gets a bit sketchy. Style is fairly good but plot has some holes especially affecting the Frank Herbert books. Where the hell were the Ixians when House Atreides occupied Dune, especially considering the close association in Leto's early days between them. Overall tho with these two I found that they set up the story fairly well for the real Dune series.

Now the last books I can't say I enjoyed. Taking them completely out of context, they were maybe adequate. But I have a hard time thinking that that was the end that Frank Herbert was going for. Frankly I have no idea what the original end was supposed to be and probably will never actually find out.
