Edit 12/22/2010:
And this just rolled into my inbox (YMMV):

Dear Humble Indie Bundle customer, I would just like to personally thank you for your support in making the Humble Indie Bundle #2 even more successful than the first one. As thanks, I have added the Humble Indie Bundle #1 into your bundle. If you go to your personal download page, you will find the following games waiting for you:

- World of Goo (now a top seller on the iPad)
- Aquaria
- Gish
- Lugaru HD
- Penumbra Overture
- Samorost 2

Happy holidays! They're (mostly) redeemable on Steam too, if you would like to link them to your account.
If this kind of thing makes you happy, please feel free to add a little more to your Humble Bundle purchase (you can help bring up the average on your download page) and keep spreading the word!

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Rosen
Humble Bundle

Looks like if you buy Humble Bundle #2, you'll also get Humble Bundle #1 included for free (I already had it, but still).

Edit 12/20/2010:

Emails went out with instructions on how to obtain your STEAM key to add Humble Bundle #2 to your steam account.

---

They did this last year too...

Games this year:
Braid
Cortex Command
Machinarium
Osmos
Revenge of the Titans

NO DRM!!!

I also received an email not even a week or so ago saying Steam picked up distribution of the Humble Bundle, and received a Steam key allowing me to activate all 5 of last years titles on Steam. I would assume they will be doing the same this year as well now.

This is a great way to support a few indie developers as well as Child's Play and the EFF. The best part is YOU get to choose how the money you donate gets split between them.

This is just sad...
Average purchase: $6.28
Average Windows: $5.55
Average Mac: $7.24
Average Linux: $11.40

What can be concluded from this is:
1) People are cheap bastards. the software is worth $85 and people are giving them $5?!!?
2) Windows user clearly suck and dont care about their fellow man. Mac users are slightly better.
3) linux users are hands down the most giving and gave two times what the windows user's gave.

Awesome. I love the concept of this so much I would probably buy it if all the games sucked. Already have Osmos, but I'm sure the others will make it worth it haha. Any idea if they will link this to Steam like they just did with the last one?

I believe I payed $10, and still haven't had chance to play any of the games. I will probably pay the same this year. Maybe someday I will actually play them...

Better than pirating it. That was a sad day for PC gamers everywhere when the Humble Indy Bundle appeared on bit torrent...

Except that with bit torrent you could download the entire bundle while maxing out your connection. I'm just taking a guess, but i bet that i cant max out my connection from steam or that site ;)

Any thoughts on Cortex Command and Revenge of the Titans?

I've already got the other 3 on Steam. I'm sure I'll get the other 2 just to help the cause.

Either way you could still pay for it. Not like there's a DRM anyway.

Just reflects the difference in salary of the different users.

im guessing that people who use linux frequently are more likely to know how difficult it is to make a game in the first place as well

im passing because i dont have enough cash to toss a reasonable amount to them
(is that really better? because i could give them like 5 dollars, but it feels rude nonetheless..but on the other hand 5 > 0)

Steam can depending on the game you're downloading and how busy their servers are. I often max out my 15Mbit connection, and at the local university I once maxed out my 100Mbit LAN connection for a number of GB (don't remember, maybe 10-20GB).

This is my thought. Being DRM free and indie, it's quite easy to pirate. What this does is hopefully makes these pirates pay at least a sliver of retail when they normally would pay nothing and just download it. Overall I bet they make more money total than if they never did this at all. There's no telling though.

You could of course still donate to the cause but download from the torrents to get full speed.

Mikeford, great point about salary income. Its pretty safe to say that anyone who would subject themselves to the horror of linux (compared to windows and mac) are most likely computer science/engineering majors that have jobs in the high tech, high paying field.

Windows base is huge which is why the donations are lower for Windows. Mac has around 10% of the market, Linux probably even less. If they had BeOS support and 1 guy donates $20, then BeOS would be leading everyone and make everyone else look like slackers. :)

1 - Agreed
2 - There are a bunch of cheap bastards that use windows
3 - That is because there is 1 linux user that paid $11.40 for his bundle!

1. See my below typings. Also, there's no way this software is worth $85 anymore, even if that's what they're retailed at.

2. As others have posted, having a larger market share will give you a wider range of donations, which will probably give you a smaller mean considering most will be willing to pay less rather than more. And yea, the one Linux user payed $11.40.

3.
the linux user is hands down the most giving and gave two times what the average windows user gave
I fixed it for you. Also, I bet there's a Windows user that gave like $100 just because they can.

4. Or...considering all of these games have been pretty popular for a while, and most people probably already own a few out of the pack, that they pay what they think re-purchasing it is worth, which really is just donating it, or they pay a few bucks for the ones they don't have already.

5. Or, people are cheap. So what? It's an un-needed form of entertainment and if you can get it for cheap when you normally can't at all because you have bills and groceries and gas to pay, of course you're going to pay cheap. If I go to a car dealership and they tell me PWYW on a Lexus, I'm going to give them my pocket change and tell them good day.

In for this year too. Already owned Osmos and got my money out of it... Last year the only one I really played was World of Goo, which was worth it all by itself.

I gave $15 and I feel just fine about it. :)

Like others have said *anything* is better than nothing... and I might play these games, or not. But I support the idea and skewed my money towards ChildsPlay, which I support independently as well...

Total revenue ~$552k from ~76.5k donations. Cheap bastards or not - that's an amazing amount. Every penny donated is one more penny they didn't have before.

This bundle reminds me of the bell ringers who stand outside the stores during the holiday - if I've got extra change, I'll drop it in and maybe I'll drop a few bucks in as well [which is rare these days as most things are paid by plastic].

I had $4.50 chillin' in my Paypal account. They got $4.50. I didn't need or necessarily want any of these games but I'll give them a shot and give them some money.

I paid $15 as that's what I had in the account. I wish I would have messed with the weightings a bit more though, because I should have given the vast majority of it to the Braid and Machinarium as that's all I was really interested in. I didn't like the Osmos demo and the other 2 aren't complete games yet =/
