Personally I thought To The Moon fell very short of the hype. Some of the puzzles/mini games/humor were decent, but the overall story/theme was pretty contrived.
It tries to be. The game is more of an interactive story than anything, where the player explores the backstory of one of the main characters/subject. The character's life isn't truly incredibly tragic, but it is one filled with regrets.
If you actually play the game, the real 'sadness' for me is the implications of what the doctors 'do' than anything.
Not sure if I need to create spoiler, but just in case.
Their entire job is revolved around creating a fictional memory for the dying person so that their last moment can be spent in a happy illusion.
But the funny thing was that the story initially made it sound like the doctors were there to fulfill a 'wish'. I imagined that it was going to be something similar to Make a Wish Foundation except virtually/inception-like. Like if my wish was to taste chocolate, they would create a fictional memory of me eating chocolate with all the experience of the taste/texture/etc, but allowing me the knowledge of knowing that it was just a virtual memory.
Instead the doctors pretty much destroyed the dying man's past and rewrote it to their liking. They let the dying man live a life filled without his previous regrets and fulfilling a vague interpretation of his 'wish'.
Today has been a big day for bundles. The new BundleStars bundle, Indie Gala bundle, and now Humble Bundle X just came out. I bought all three of them and had an injection of like 20 games into my Steam account.
