Humans - gullible by nature?

I just realised that humans are incredibly gullible by nature. Most people really do believe everything they hear. Think about it. Billions of people out here believe in God. Yet there is no evidence of any kind that proves God exists. There is no evidence of any kind that there that proves the existance of an afterlife, that we have a soul, or that anything written in the holy books is true. This is mind-boggling. All these people. They all believe in something, simply because others tell them it's true. Anyone else finds this disturbing? And a little funny? 😀

I generally don't mind or even pass judgement on these people, until they come knocking on my door telling me I'm going to hell unless I donate money to their church (attendance is optional as long as you're cutting checks). IOW, I don't have any problem with these people unless they're belief instructs them to have a problem with me first.
 
I don't want to comment on the examples you quoted, but yes, I do find most people very gullible.

One of my most memoriable was the time my friend and I (who had just left the Navy) told our other friends that on submarines they have a full, modrn fitness gym complete with sunbeds! You see you need the sunbeds because so much time under the sea without sunlight is bad for your skin....hook, line and sinker.....
 
I do it at work all the time. The girls at the front desk will come up and ask me dumb questions and I'll give them bizarre answers (e.g. "This orange juice is sweet. Do you guys put sugar in it?" "No, we put vanilla syrup, vanilla extract, and caramel in it." "Really??" *10 sec pause* "No. Not really.")
 
Why single out humans? Dogs are pretty damn gullible too...Also, I really don't have a problem with those religious folk either.

Do you think they believe just for the sake of believing? Or are they doing it to belong to something/find guidance?

Why did people during the middle ages believe in witches etc.?

All they had was superstition. Why do people need superstition? Because they're mentally 'lacking'? Because they are incapable of understanding many aspects of this world?

Superstition is NOT the right way to reach insight.

Yes there is evidence, but many choose to pretend it doesn't exist. Perhaps *you* are not personally ignoring the evidence, because it has not been presented to you, but you are just as gullible for believing everyone else that says there is no evidence.

So yes humans are incredibly gullible by nature. 😉

I have a problem with those people too, because those are the type of people that miss the point. Don't let them fool you into thinking that they represent the legitimate christian.

I have found people on this board to be more gullible than normal. I came to this conclusion after extensive 'tests'.

The bible in it's various forms is largely a psychological pacifier. It's very comforting for many to pick up a copy of the bible and construct a life around it. It tells you where you came from, where you are and where your going and your rewards at the end. But many do not require pacification and prefer a mind uncluttered with the dogma of the bible.
 
I don't have a problem with religious types, they usually have a problem with me. I'm going to stop right there because if I went into the Maggotry Religious Manifesto, I'd be here a long time. Quick facts: I've been a devout Christian (Baptist first, then I was "shone the light" and switched to LDS). I've also been a student of science. I've been on both sides of the bible. Religion can't stand up to science. I want to go on, but I won't.
