humans as distributed computing?

I was thinking about something the other day. I think it was spurred by thinking about distributed computing as my wind wandered to what i happened to be looking at, which was the matrix dvd case sitting on the floor.

The point is, wouldn't it seem logical for all the unused computational power of all the minds in the matrix to be used for DC? I know this crosses the like into ubergeek, but i can't help but think... what if we could use people for DC...?

Any issues? Moral, religious, technical, pizza related, are welcome!

Hmm ,well we'll leave religious & moral issues for another forum;) ,but as for pizzas! :D ,what happened if this matrix was crunchin some DC project & they ate a chilli pizza! ,cold you imagine the consequences!?:Q
What would happen if some had been to the pub & got drunk?results would be a bit messed up!;)

And who would pay the medical fees when people start overclocking their brains to get more results!?:D

Take people like serious criminals, like those on death row, or find people who are really sure that they want to kill themselves - do a "low-level format" on their brains, and reprogram them to do something else like computing, data sorting, etc. Something useful to society.

This nonsense should go to Off Topic where it belongs. :disgust:

* Edited to tone down my remarks, but the sentiment is the same. *

uhmmmmm... didn't anybody here see The Matrix

Talk about being jacked in, that was pretty weird stuff with all those pods full of humans all interconnected with trunks of fibre or whatever ultra high bandwidth cable they were using. There's DC using human brains for ya, NO THANKS!

In all honesty, "human DC" is defiantely possible. While I doubt it would resemble a "borg" form of communication, if the data was simple enough, 2 people could easily conciously divide a task. In fact, it's already been invented; they're called study groups.;) Anything we'd consider DC would most likely just be the next step, using wires to transmit data(there's already a professor in England with wires, at least according to Slashdot) instead of verbal/written.

PS NWM: Calm down. This is perfectly valid for DC. Besides, this is the same thread that's been unlocked. CP hasn't done a thing wrong

He's talking about DC (even if it is fictional) ,why should it go to OT?.I don't understand why you are getting heated up by it:confused:.
btw I was the 1 who asked the mods to unlock it because I thought it was ON topic.I see dont why anyone would be upset by it:(

We allready have the technology to store every bit of information from a human brain...

We're only lacking the proper interface...

'BrainWire' anyone ??

Wouldnt it be nice to plug into a ROM chip & instantly know another 10 languages!?:D

Or how about plugging into ya PC to find out what's wrong with it!;) ,look out for viruses corrupting your mind though:Q

That reminds me of a Star trek book I read called Gulliver's fugitives. (sp?)
