Cry me a river. His title is misleading and it's stupid. It's FUD.
The title is not at all misleading. The topic summary is misleading though. Hey, if you are going to nitpick over stupid things, then I will too.

It's not stupid when people click the thread thinking "wow, they've only sold 26 seats", and you realize the OP doesn't know how to word his topic summary and it's not correct.

oh Linus...

Well all I can say is that when Clemson played there, many Clemson fans purchased tickets and donated them to charity groups on Idaho so they sold way more tickets than Maryland has. That is why Clemson is always wanted when it comes to bowl games. We travel well.....and if we are aren't traveling, we still put our money where our mouth is.

Maryland fans don't travel outside of their state......

There is nothing in Boise that's worth the trip, not in the winter.

And this is coming from a guy from Pocatello? Talk about the armpit of Idaho, radioactive armpit.

So after all this drama... how many tickets have been sold?

Edit... it appears to be pure FUD. They are looking at student ticket sales only. Nobody wants to travel to Boise to see a bowl game. Actual ticket sales look to be in the 25k range. Mostly from locals. Not a lot... but WAY more than a few dozen.

Humanitarian Bowl ticket sales
It's made its way onto the vast expanse of the Web that Maryland has sold all of 16 tickets to the Humanitarian Bowl and Nevada has sold eight.

Maryland says those numbers are inaccurate.

"As for that quote, we can't find the source of it," says Brian Ullmann, Maryland's senior associate athletics director. "It certainly is not accurate and it certainly did not come from us. Nor is the Nevada number correct."

It's true that Maryland isn't expecting big ticket sales. The cost of getting to Boise and the economy aren't helping.

Maryland isn't ready to release any numbers, and I've got inquiries into the bowl folks in Boise to get their figures. I've been told by others in Boise that a crowd of 25,000 would be expected -- largely composed of locals. My best estimate is that Maryland will have a contingent in the hundreds.

Yet another example of why the press and the internet sucks.

25k isn't that bad considering the stadium is fairly small, around 32k seats I think.

Compare that to a school like Iowa that has a huge following and landed an Outback Bowl bid in Tampa. A few years ago Iowa brought along close to 60,000 fans and easily eclipsed the home field crowd of Florida fans.

It's a vacation for fans from those states and they get to watch their team play one more game for the year.

We love to go someplace warm after christmas 😀
