Human relationships are so difficult

Sometimes people need help, so you try to help them. Sometimes they appreciate it. Sometimes they get embarassed because needing help implies they're somehow "weak."

Sometimes you want to build trust but end up doing the opposite. Sometimes your genuine efforts are interpreted as manipulative.

Steven R. Covey was right - it all comes down to character. No tactic or technique in the world matters because your character always speaks louder than your words.

You can never get someone to trust you if you're a known liar or manipulator.

You can never get someone to open up to you if you're a known gossip.

And sometimes you succeed - you build that trust, those lasting relationships - only to have the slightest mistake send that trust down the tubes.

Or you build the trust and then have a slip in judgement and mis-use the trust to your own advantage. There's a way to ruin a friendship.

Or you get misinterpreted. You don't talk for a while and the other person assumes you're angry about something and starts inventing reasons. You say something vague and they interpret it as a comment about them.

I guess it's all about managing sensitive egos and insecurities.

Maybe some of you realized this early in life, but lately I've realized that the biggest asset I have is trust.

Money, skills and status come relatively easily to me and mean less and less these days.

But if people don't trust you then nothing else matters. You have to live with integrity to the best of your ability.

I was always TOLD that, but I never really understood it.

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
He's the time taken up, but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall into..

I'm a little teapot, short and stout,
Here's my handle, here's my spout,
When I hear the tea-cups, hear me shout,
"Tip me up and pour me out".

That's just the way social world is. Some ppl master that and become social butterflies, some ppl are not as adaptable and have an extra hard time with it.

I guess you're the latter.

Yeah mang, trustworthiness is the ultimate trait.

You would not keep a dog that couldn't be trusted not to bite you or shit on your floor sans provocation nor remorse. So why associate with like hu-mans? The worst cases are called psychopathic and it ranges down from there into the garden variety selfish and liers. Do not want.

I reckon someone could be socially inept and even generally act like a douche but if they can be trusted then they are still preferable to the reverse. Indeed, psychos are oft charming which makes their nature all the more disturbing. It's like a facade concealing rot.

MIMI
Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows.
Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom, the children play.
The stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you.
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.

Without you, the stars roar the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves.
Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash.
The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you.
The moon glows, the river flows, but I die, without you.

ROGER
The world revives?

MIMI
Colors renew?

BOTH
But I know blue, only blue, lonely blue, within me blue.

MIMI
Without you.
Without you, the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats.

ROGER
Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walk, the lungs breathe.

ROGER
The mind churns!

MIMI
The mind churns!

ROGER
The heart yearns!

MIMI
The heart yearns!

BOTH
The tears dry, without you.
Life goes on, but I?m gone.
Cause I die, without you.

MIMI
Without you.

ROGER
Without you.

BOTH
Without you.

I'm good at people. I work help desk so I deal with all sorts of students and faculty all the time. It just comes naturally. I also believe that I am the most trustworthy person a lot of my friends know. I don't do drama, don't spread rumors, and I'm always there to listen and give advice.

That's presumptiously assuming that popular people are always fake/mistrusting/vain and unpopular people are always nice yet timid.

The world goes every ways. Some ppl are popular because they genuinely have good character, charm and charisma. Some ppl are unpopular because they deserve it: douche, introverted, not properly socialized, back-stabbing, etc.

And sometimes it doesn't matter how much integrity you have. All it takes is one lying sack of s**t to ruin your good name.

I did not presumptiously assume but merely contrasted opposites as example to show the value of trustworthiness. Obviously there's whole range of character.

In the end, life is good my friend. I think it's always good to step back and have a positive outlook on life.
