Hulu Plus Micro-rant (Criterion Collection)

Why, oh why am I subjected to 60 second ads for "The Criterion Collection?" A collection of ancient movies that feature, as far as I can tell, no zombies, no apocalyptic themes, no Scarlett Johansson and no Natalie Portman and looks about as interesting as reruns of the Honeymooners.

The most vexing part of this problem, which I have several 60 second periods of time to ponder every day, is that this is somehow supposed to convince people to subscribe to Hulu Plus and yet, I'm already subscribed to Hulu Plus. Why are they doing this to me?! I'd rather see the commercial about goats saving nations or art telling kids to eat healthy food if I'm going to be forced to watch commercials on a paid service. 😡

That's why I built an HTPC. No need to purchase Hulu Plus (what a waste: paying $10/month and still having commercials :thumbsdown🙂. The WMC integration is pretty poor too for Hulu Desktop, but an edit to the .ini file for my remote's driver fixed the no-remote in Hulu Desktop problem. And Hulu Desktop can be opened from within WMC7 and upon closing, reopen WMC.

Screw you and your hate for the Honeymooners.

Hijacking thread to a Honeymooners thread as the OP fails.

It seems that, uh... Uh... Well, uh... Sir Lancelot, uh, goes to King Arthur one night, and he says, uh, I hear that you called for me. And, uh, Sir Arthur says-- uh, King Arthur says to Sir Lancelot, Yes, I called for you. He says, I want you to go on a message, um, uh, uh... what's another word for message? Uh... uh...a trip for me. I want you to go on a trip for me. And he says, uh, All right. Yes, sir. And he says, Go out and get your horse. And he says, Must I go now, King? And he says, Yes. Why not? He says, Well, 'cause it's snowing and raining and thunder and lightning and everything. He says, However, you gotta go take this trip, so get the horse. Well, Sir Lancelot goes outside and he goes into the stable and there's no horses in there, but there is a great big Great Dane. So he comes back into the, uh, castle and he says, uh, Sir Lancelot, I mean, King Arthur, Sir Lancelot reporting. There are no horses in the stable, he says, But if it is a very important trip that you wish me to go on, I will saddle the Great Dane and I will go on the dog to wherever you're gonna send me. Now get ready, here it comes. King Arthur says, that won't be necessary, Sir Lancelot. I wouldn't send a knight out on a dog like this.

This is on an HTPC. I don't see how an HTPC eliminates the need for Hulu Plus. I use Hulu Plus with Hulu Desktop and the WMC plug-in. With basic Hulu you don't get a lot of the episodes on Hulu plus. You also don't get them in HD.

I tested Hulu Plus for the first time today during the XBOX Live free trial and was surprised to see the ads, too. I liked the selection but I'm not paying for ads, so they won't get my money.

I guess their high-quality is good enough for me and there are few shows I watch through Hulu these days. I used to use it more when I didn't have recording capabilities, but those days are gone.

I don't know. I just don't know. I really wasn't expecting to have to watch commercials once I put in my credit card info.

It's kind of like cable TV.

Screw paying for a service and getting spammed ads, especially a service that has a free option even if it doesn't have as much content.

I refuse to buy/sub to stuff like that.
