Hulu.com...Is it for real?

Do you think Hulu.com will have what it takes to persevere? This is owned by Fox and they do have premium content(full movies & tv shows etc etc etc...) but it is commercial based. I haven't watched much yet but I know you have to start off with a 30 second ad. Nice features like High rez are available.
So does Hulu.com look to you like something that will successfully distract significant portions of the masses from Break, Youtube & Likeleak?

Funny I just did a marketing presentation on this for one of my mba classes.

I think it has a chance but it needs better support from the content providers. More shows (right now just limited seasons available, limited shows e.g. no American Idol due to Itunes contract it seems), more HD content, etc.

Hulu was founded in March 2007 and is a joint venture owned by NBC Universal and News Corp. In addition, Hulu has closed a $100 million investment from private equity firm Providence Equity Partners.

looks pretty neat, MUCH better than joost. The commercial breaks with joost were totally random in addition to having pop-up ads on the show.

Hulu has a decent selection now compared to when it was in beta. I do like the way you can pause a show and come back to exactly where you left off.

I watched S4 of the office on it and had no problems with the commercials. They are quick =< 30 second ads that aren't too bad. You also only have 3 per show (22 min show like the office at least) one at start, second and 3rd part ways into the show (sometimes there was a last one in the last min or so of it which I though was stupid, but no biggie).

Still ~1.5-2min of ad's instead of ~8min of ads per OTA/cable/satelite for each 30 min show is a win for me.

I think it lasts.

Very good concept and they did it right. Started off with good quality(some videos are in 480p) with the possible transition to HD when the time comes(cheaper bandwidth).

I think there are plenty of people(like me) who want to do the right thing. I think this site is perfect. I don't mind the commercials at all.

ditto. I don't mind watching 3 commercials per episode instead of 3 commericals PER break.

ya. Veoh still exists (although lower quality), and gomtv (korea's internet tv) has been at it for a long time and seem to do well.

Anyone using it regularly? I am surprised by the amount of contents that is available there plus it has full length movies too.

Yes. I watch House and The Office on it since I don't have TV, I also watch Conan and Jay Leno on it every night as I go to sleep and I never have any problems with it. Sometimes it seems like some portions of the episodes were encoded a little funny but really nothing to complain about.

I love Hulu and I hope it lasts.

I like it; I've been watching "Firefly" in 480p with minimal commercials.
Also some great SNL stand-alone skits.

Well, that's an unfair comparison. Hulu only shows videos. At Zombocom, you can do anything.

..but that's why Zombo is better. The rest of the Internet is just redundant.

I've been watching Arrested Development on it. Love it. I have to sit through a movie trailer before it starts... but I love movie previews anyway, so meh. :p

If there was some integration with Media Center then I'd use it more, I'd love to be able to use my Harmony remote to load up the site, search content and play in full screen.

Some shows just don't have them. Dunno why.

Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't.
