I am running Athlon 1.33GHZ CPU on MSI K7t turbo MOBO. In my BIOS the CPU cutoff temperature is set at 75° but my Bios is showing the CPU internal temperature at 83°. How come my system did not shut down.
Is my CPU going to fry or something?? My CPU temperature is always in the 80° region???
 
Is this in celsius or fahrenheit? Make sure that you are not mixing the 2 up. IE my board is set to shut down at 75c, but if I look at mobo monitor and it is 80f then that could get confusing.
 
man... that'd be pretty sweet if those temps are in farenheit. if they're in celsius then u may have something to worry about.

Come on guys I know the difference betwween the two.

Anyway the cut off/shutdown temp. is enabled and set to 75°C/167°F in the Bios.

When I start the PC the Bios shows 56°C....then it moves to 79°C/174°F (which is now) few more minutes and it will go to and settle down at 83°C :-(

Originally I had aTitan cooler with twin fans on the heatsink. They made too much noise. So I took it to my local PC shop. They said they will put a quieter/better and bigger Titan fan. Now since then the temperature has started playing. I took it back and they said that in the Bios they have put the shut down temp. at 75° so everything is OK now. Obviously not. Looks like they did Jack. I will have to take it again to the shop. 3 times I had to carry the computer.
My case temp. shows around 21°C -29°C.

* I read in the Anandtech FAQ that excluding the power supply fan there should be an exhaust + an intake fan. I have an Intake fan on the front side of the case. The Titan fan on the CPU. The power supply fan. Now my question is where does the exhaust fan go??? I can't imagine any place on my Inwin ATX midi tower.

I think that maybe your heatsink and fan really sucks then. You may want to think about buying a better heatsink.
 
If your motherboard will support an Alpha, they are great heatsinks. You can put a nice quiet 80mm fan on them and you wont even hear it. The SK-6 is good also and I read that you can put an 80mm on those also. It really sounds to me like you heatsink is not doing a good job.
 
put an 80mm exhaust fan at the back of your case below your power supply.

Sorrry man but your temps really suck, I am surprised you dont have a big silicon heap on your hands at this moment.
 
Ok guys I have taken a day off work to blast the shop keeper ;-) and to sort my PC out. I want to be armed with your advice and recomendations rather than bullets 🙂

Q- What Alpha fan is good for AMD Thunderbird 1.33GHZ Socket A CPU ??? Any other reccomendations??? How can I determine whether my MSI K7t turbo-r MOBO can take an Alhpha heatsink...???
Q- Any reccomendations for the exhaust fan on my Inwin ATX midi tower???
Q- I have a 300W powersupply currently. Will that be sufficient for my *2x HD's *CD-Burner *CD/ DVD ROM * Zip * Plus the new exhaust fan on top of the already existing intake fan???

ok.... as for a fan for your alpha... i'm not sure.. i don't have one... but i think an 80mm Panaflow will do
as for en exhaust... that will help incredibly... just any 80mm fan.... panaflow/sunon if you're one of those "quiet" freaks
and yes... that 3oo watt should be fine
 
If the shop has them, and if you are going to get an Alpha HS, then see if you can get the enermax adjustable. Otherwise any 80mm fan will do. If you are looking to keep things quiet though, make sure you get quiet fans. A local computer shop that I go to for work stuff has some generic fans that are very quiet and push a nice amount of air.

If you get an Alpha HS, make sure you have the fan set to suck off the HS and then that 80mm fan in the back for exhaust will do a great job at getting rid of the heat.

Whatif your temps are impossible. Your cpu would have fried along time ago. I think your mother board temp probe is afk. IF your system is running without crashing dont worry about it.

If you have a thermonitor then stick it on your heat sink and see what it says. I bet you will get around 130 degree F or like 50 C.
 
I took the computer to the shop. They saw that in the Bios the temp. was going up......they took the computer to the back of the shop and then they came back after 30 minutes and said that the MOBO diode is faulty and that I can keep using it+ that I could get the MOBO replaced by taking it to the place where I originally bought the computer.
I took the PC back home switched it on and the PC does not boot anymore. The CPU fan comes on.....but the 4-5 lights on the MOBO are all RED. I guess that means they either damaged my CPU when they took it to the back of the shop or they burned it. What do u think?
The place I brought the PC from is in a different city and the guy who I bought it from is virtually uncontactable.
I think I am screwed. My IBM 60 GXP HD was making funny noises as well last week. I am in a German speaking country. I got my wife to phone the shop and say that the PC does not boot anymore. The guy said that it was OK when they gave it to me.......I have been to this shop 5 times and everytime I have been something new has gone wrong with my PC. Anyway my wife was very cross with them so they said they will come home and take a look at it.
My move to PC from Apple has been nothing but full of misery. So many cowboys out there......:-(
 
Man it sounds like you got pumped in the backside! I would go back to those guys and make them fix it IN FRONT OF YOU!!!! They sounds very shaddy!
