I was certainly no fan of Chavez but I think he gets way too much demonizing by US right wingers. As far as dictators go he was pretty mild-no mass killings, prison camps, etc. his worst fault IMO is that he pissed away a huge chunk of Venezuela's new-found oil wealth on vanity projects, like propping up Cuba. He was a publicity seeking buffoon that played right into the Fox News playbook.

Venezuela, before Chavez, was one of the US's most reliable allies in South America. Rather than gloating about his dealth by cancer we should STFU and take reasonable steps to mend that relationship.

Likely corrupted people that looted the public funds and fled
to the US....

You think that they where to tell you their past actions ??...

Nobody fled after looting the public fund. They don't want to lose their Government position.

People tend to get attacked when the Liberal elite hold them up as a poster child of the way a Government should be run but the very people holding him up wouldn't be cought dead living over there.

Wich meedle class ?

In 1996 70% where under poverty level under the rule
of the 5% that where the upper class , the meddle class
accounted for 20% at the time.

Keep you facts straight before posting utter lies.

Have you ever been to Venezuela? I've worked there at several PDVSA facilities and two textile facilities over the past 10 years. I also worked with a Venezuelan engineering firm/engineers in Saudi Arabia that were not allowed to operate within Venezuela as they used to work for PDVSA. The people I dealt with didn't like Chavez or his policies, this includes engineers, mechanics and mid-level managers.

This being said I think the US needs to work the new government in Venezuela to repair out relationship them as thump533 stated.

Before Chavez Venezuela was a country where a fascist mafia
had control over all oil ressources that were looted by both
thoses thugs and US companies a la Exxon with the people
living on poverty.

As for PDVSA employees , good ridance when El Comandante
threw out 19 000 of them , they were just foreign CIA agents
who tried to help make a state coup sponsorized by the US
and the venezuelian unpatriotic capitalists in 2002.

Indeed , i see that some posters brand him as a dictator ,
blatantly denying that he was elected , but that doesnt
matter , the same haters will tell you that the elections
where rigged , yet another shamefull lie since all foreign
non gov orgs branded all his elections as fair and democratic.

I love how idiots get their panties in a bunch over DU just because it has the word "Uranium" in it.

Wars involve shit burning and blowing up. Regardless of whether you're using DU weapons or not they're going to be all kinds of nasty, toxic crap in the air. I can only imagine what kind of an environmental nightmare a burning tank is. This notion that DU is some sort of uniquely awful thing is laughable.

tell that to US veterans like Herbert Reed

I Cant believe moron leftists like sean penn and other idiots are defending this guy.

The man was a socialist dictator and he didn't believe in freedom. He nationalized many of the businesses and oil companies. He shut down freedom of speech with his shutdowns of political opponents and media. He was a tyrant and he was also anti-AMERICAN.

You could say similar things about Mubarak.

He was a power-hungry dictator who had something resembling a conscience. Big deal. I have no love lost for the guy and IMO the world is a better place without him.

Yes, he wasn't as bad as some of the mass killers and psychopaths like Saddam. As far as dictators go, he was probably somewhat mild. Make no mistake about it though, he systematically destroyed the free press and put any public media firmly under his control. He had opposition people beaten and thrown in jail, and any business owner who publicly opposed him could count on having one or more of their required permits denied to drive them out of business.

I know this because I personally know people that have had it happen to them.

Rather than gloating about his dealth by cancer we should STFU and take reasonable steps to mend that relationship.

Mending the relationship with the country is a good idea, but it's going to be tough to do considering that his replacement (Maduro) is probably worse than he was.

I'll see your DU munitions (Russia has/uses these too BTW) and raise with Chernobyl

Chernobyl was an accident from massive incompetence.

When someone mentioned Russia killing people by radiation I thought they were referring to the deaths of Russians by intentional radiation poisoning, ie: Alexander V. Litvinenko, who probably isn't alone in being killed via intentional radiation poisoning by people inside Russia(be it govt, oil co's or others).

That was me and that was the intent, though I took a swipe at a certain self-righteous Russophile and it spiraled from there.

Chavez was a horrible leader
he was corrupt, incompetent, gave away money to other countries for political gains.

An individual's legacy should not change simply because they died. People should be remembered the same way whether living or deceased.

Going from one extreme to another is any better than switching from a cocaine addiction to heroin addiction.

I bet the FAT puke smells all kinds of sulfur now. Hey Hugo the good news is hell is only half full so your dead FAT ass will fit just fine. Give Adlof a big hug for us when you see him you POS.

The FAT f**k got exactly what he deserved...excrutiating pain followed by death. Now he is worm food, end of story for the POS.

I agree that he was a horrible leader to his own people and I am no fan of his but at the same time he did many good things for Lesser developed countries (LDC).

He has helped MANY poor people and their country on a whole. From free oil to free medical care Venezuela has contributed a lot to the development of these Countries.

Yes, I know it is how the Communist like to win "hearts and minds" but tell that to all the poor people who are live today because of him. Just giving credit where credit is due.
