Huge surprise day at work.

So yesterday I show up to work 45minutes later than my usual time which isn't a big deal, but at some point a friend from college was in town and called me for lunch. So I totally forgot about a meeting I had a 2pm and went for an hour an half lunch with my friend. I come back and realize that they had to reschedule things around... so I apologized of course.

Then I was again leaving earlier than my normal time cause my friend was in town... and my boss calls me and asks me to wait 5 min cause he had to talk to me.

I started thinking ahh man .. I hope I don't have to hear ... whatever it was it wasnt ganna be good, not if it relates to today.

I graduated in December and have been working here for only 5 months, at the meeting my boss gives me a folder and asks to take my time to read it. I am reading thru and its all good things. I knew I wasn't fiored or anything but halfway through I knew its something good... towards the end of the letter they were happy to give me a 25% salary raise $$$$ I was speechless, did not know how to respond.

I was very happy of course , is this mean I was underpaid ? because 25% isn't normal...
Should I send a thank you email to him? because I don't even remember if I said thank you then... I prolly did, but everything got blurry after reading that thing.

Whats the most percentage has anyone ever got ?

I do have to take on more responsibilities I guess, which I was already doing anyways.

It has taken me 7 years to get 25% above my starting salary here (this place is not known for good pay anyway). Usually people get 3-5% annual raise at a regular desk job. Some don't get any in a given year.

25% raise - if that's not just an annual bonus, then I'd say you were well underpaid before. Or you're about to take on some major work. 😀

So you show up late, take a long lunch, leave early and get a 25% raise? Wtf company do you work for?

You didn't tell him thank you?

Better send him a sausage gift basket if you know what I mean 😉

I know, I meant to send him an email last night but I was celebrating and got tore to the floor and forgot.

In the past year my salary has increased 33%; i am thinking that i was underpaid at my first job; since that type of increase is most certainly not normal...

anyways, congrats and have a  or :cookie:; if you are underage.

No but we are in slow time as we just finished a huge project that was successful. I worked 23hours straight the night before the project was due, I made sure we are in a good shape for a demo for a contract that is worth a lot.

Your late arrivals and early leavings means they were scared to lose you. They thought you were persuing other jobs during the time you were gone. kudos!

Same thing happened to me in the end of Decemeber.

My boss pulled me aside and starting talking about my position and then said my pay scale was increasing because of the work I've done. I had heard they were going to increase some people's pay maybe 6-10% to keep people from leaving but I was given a 25% raise. I was floored.

Now, 6 months later, the company that bought the one I work for is laying me off.

Easy come, easy go.

Congratulations.

What sort of work do you do? We can't really tell you if you're underpaid or not since we don't know what you do and how much you made/make, but 25% is nice for anyone.

One day at my previous job I got a 9% pay raise. Two weeks later, the company laid me off.

Go figure. 😕

I am an electronic engineer, I do a lot of different stuff here from Java programming to PCB layout and design. A lot of hw/sw integration, I do all the ordering of parts boards you name it. I do all the rework on the boards, I have mad soldering skills. I install all the sh*t on computers (software), basically some IT work. I do some research when I have time. I was making average ee college grad makes.

That's some bad news, I hope it is not my case. My company is very small tho, everyone I work with has a PhD and I am the only one with just a BS except for the contractors.

How much did you get paid before for all this kind of work?

I wasn't hired to do all of this, I didn't even know how to do half of it. I just learned it from contractors and started needing their help less and less. I am not sure if I feel right about saying what I make... but f8ck it around 50k

so you went from ~50K to ~63K? or 50K after the raise? if prior, you got an awesome raise as 50K is about normal for ee grads. if latter, you were being underpaid before.

well if they bumped you up to a different salary grade that is entirely possible. I gotten a few big raises like that. last one was 22%.

my gf has gotten three raises since last october.

7% 10% and 6% and the year before that was a 22% raise.

no we don't have any grades, we are small. This is separate from the annual raise that everyone gets of 6% every December.

40% was biggest boost. 150% in 3 years. Key is to job jump (this is my 3rd).
