Huge storm and phones are dead, but DSL is ok?

We had one of the worst lightning storms that we have had since we moved. When the storm started I shut down the DSL router, and computer. When the storm was finally over I went to turn everything back on. The DSL works fine, but there is no dial tone at all in my house. All 3 phones are dead. Even the Dish receivers want connect out.

Called the phone company and someone is supposed to come out tommorow and check on our outage.

Not sure how this works, but what would cause the phones to be out and the DSL to still be working? Usually when/if the phone is out the DSL is down too.

It is entirely possible for your phone service to be down but your DSL connection to be fine.

Hell, you don't eventechnically need telephone service to have DSL. Although you obviously need the copper pair in your home...
