HUGE RECALL OF BROTHER LASER PRINTERS

I got a Brother HL-1020 which isn't listed so hopefully I am in the clear...

btw, this printer was very cheap, and has been very dependable! Haven't had one problem with it and I am on my 3rd toner cartridge (lots of printing, trust me!)

it's a great thing my job promotes a "Paperless Environment" literally. I can count on one hand how many pages i printed out last year.

Oh man, I have the HL-1040, got it off ebay about 8 months ago... I did notice it tends to get pretty hot after I turn
it on for 20-30 min... I only do light printing (envelops for rebates & Hot Deals )

But I only turn it on, print, then turn it off. Usu. never let it sleep w/ power on...

What they gonna do, change the fuser?

i have an HP Laserjet 4L. hecka old school but it's served me well. i believe it's going into its ninth year and still running strong. of course it only prints 4 pages a minute but i'm not complaining. most my papers are at most 8 pages, so two minutes isn't something to complain about. if you can't find something to amuse yourself with for two minutes then you're going through life too fast. pick your nose or something.

On the personal printer side: I just purchased an HP G85, it runs circles around my Brother MFC7300c. Hell, the 7300 didn't even have WinXP drivers. And the price was the same.

wow... i just bought an mfc-8500 yesterday and thought I was gonna have to return if for a minute there.

hp printers are ok... the 2200 is overpriced and tends to breakdown the 4100 is very good, just like the 4000 and 4050 before it.

Been churning out paper for over 5 years now. Replaced the toner cart. once.

We had some HP Color Laser (4550?) in Kuwait. Things took like 15 mintues to warm up! We have a LaserJet V in my office. Ornery bastard, but still keeps on chugging. We also have one of those $10K jobbers no one knows how to work in the datacenter. What a waste.

It probably was a 4500/4550 you had, & everyone over-estimates their warm-up time. It's actually <5 minutes. It has a lot to do during that time, it has 4 developers + imaging drum + intermediate transfer belt to calibrate. It does 16 ppm monochrome, 4 ppm color.

It has since been replaced by the 4600, which uses an in-line cartridge system. 17 ppm monochrome and color, & no ITB.

Like the 4's which preceded them (and are nearly identical hardware wise), LJ5's are workhorses. Simple, reasonably fast, easy to work on, and reliable as hell.

Which specific printer are you talking about? I'm talking about corporate level LJ 5's - Not the personal level 5L's & similar.
