Okay heres the deal... I bought a refurbished NF7-S from newegg and my mobile 2500+ from a seller on the boards. Got a swiftec hsf that everyone talks bout... the rocktech one? 1X512 od kingston ram with infineon chips. 2X256 one with samsung chip, the other with infineon chips. They are 2700 DDR CHIPS. I had to wait to install my new processor becuase I didnt have arctic silver yet. soo i used my xp1700. It wasa running just fine too for the past couple days, totally stable. Anyways the arctic silver gets here today, I apply it according to the directions on the site and install it.
It shows up as unknown cpu. Anyways I cant even hit stock with the processor. Whatever reason, possibly the ram?
I know ram would limit my overclocking, but limit my ability to even boot at stock? I have tried just using one stick at a time.. bad results everytime.. It some cases it can get to the windows loadin screen then shuts down and the system just beeps nonstop until i pull the plug. Sometimes this happens right as soon as the new settings are saved into memory.
Can anyone help me out? What can I do ? Could it be the arctic silver? Is it possible it got on something other than the core? Would that cause a huge problem like this? I am running at 1.65v. 11X133 thats as stable as I can get it. BTW what is the default settings for this chip to run at stock? Thanks

actually, you have no problem at all. mobile processors werent exactly made for the desktop. they were made for notebooks, so when you install that into a desktop motherboard, it reads it as an unknown cpu, which is perfectly normal and everyone with a mobile cpu has that reading. the only way to find out about the speed is by reading the multiplier by the fsb.

also, clear your cmos so it will be at its default settings. the reason y you had problems at startup was because your computer settings were all weird after u tinkered with it.

It definitely sounds to me as if you bought either a fvcked processor or motherboard. How did the motherboard do while you had the XP1700 in it? If it was alright, try either resetting or even better, upgrading your bios. If it still isn't right, there's something wrong with the chip you bought (surprise, surprise).

thanks for the input.. the computer was perfectly fine with the xp1700
I;m gonna clean off the arctic and reapply more carefully.. Its possible that I got it somewhere where it shouldn't be. I really hope the case isn't that I have a messed up cpu.. i bought it off a guy here and he said it ran at 2.2 at 1.65v before .. he said it was briefly tested..
will be back with results

okay.. cleaned, then reapplyed. At booting// at 144x10.. that went okay
which is a good sign because it wouldnt go that far before. Temps are 42c for cpu .. 25c for system
