Opteron 175: yesterday, $225. today $486.
Opteron 185 is less than the 175 at $335.

I am glad that I bought my Opteron yesterday. Why on earth would the 175 be $150 more than the 185?

I know that people are getting their last dual cores that are supported on S939, but that kind of increase seems insane. Maybe it is a mistake.

They increased the prices because you've bought half of their remaining stock of s939 opterons ...:p

yeah, yeah, yeah...

I don't like to stay too close to the bleeding edge. I hate being a test platform for new technologies. But, what I have now become is someone who is on the blunt trailing edge of technology that is getting bludgeoned and bruised by the end of lifecycle price increases.

Do you know what the semiconductors call this phase of chip sales.....they call it harvest mode. All they do is sell what they have with no new investment.

My next upgrade will require investment in DDR2. That annoys me since I am into DDR400 for 3GB of RAM. What a waste.

true...that is why you should have bought the sckt 939 chips soon after the launch of AM2 and all the chip variations....At that point the market wasn't seeing an overwhelming majority of am2 chips...Now it is all they are being sent. They (etailers) are just not restocking...Low supply and high (decent) demand equals higher prices....

Wow. This really sucks. I was thinking of ordering a 185 last night for $335 and now they are sold out...these new prices...well they suck out loud.

I'll sell you my 175 for $400. ;-)

I think the my original price quote at the top was a mistake at Newegg. They have corrected the prices and the Opteron 175 is only $255. I paid $225 on Wednesday night. The Opteron 180 is $275. The FX60 is $550. That processor is like a year and a half old isn't it?

yikes. I guess I timed the market right on my opteron.

Yeah, I've been looking at the Opty 165 at Newegg all last month for $153.99 but didn't buy for one reason or another. And now they're gone. They are still at some other places for a little more, but the steppers at Newegg were generally pretty good.

The 89W 4400+ (OEM) is $186 -- good price even with HSF cost. But does this thing OC at all?
