A few users in this thread stated that if a person running a blacklisted version of XP tries to d/l SP1, they will encounter problems and that was done on purpose by MS. I've read the articles at tweaktown and at theregister and cannot find details on this. Does anyone know exactly what kind of problems will occur? It appears as if people have tried to do this and all they get is an error message stating that their CD key is not valid and the installation for SP1 aborts.

Devistater-Can you email me or post that info on Cal-State students being able to get MS Software for $20?

jonnashville,
Make yourself a special user account and use that.
M$ nearly "forces" that on the system in an XP install.
To even use the "Administrator" account, you need to use the Control/Alt/Del keys twice in quick succession ? and this is hidden from the casual user. (Of course, now it's not a secret.):D

Why not just delete or rename uplddrvinfo.htm and shine on the SP1 for a while. I wouldn't install a virgin SP1 for a few weeks anyway.

I feel sorry for the less than tech saavy and the 50% plus of users who will never install the service pack and will either get an e-mail...Dl something off Kazaa or open an enticing webpage and get their Windows XP trashed. Microsofts oly fix is the service pack? This is totally irresponsible IMHO...
